a shop sell a pair of jeans at $50, you ask you mother for $25 and your father for another $50. you go to the shop and they give you $5 discount, you go back home and give your mother $1 back and your father a $1, so you owe your parents $24 each and you have $3 extra. now $24 + $24+$3= $51 how do you get the $1 extra?

There is no extra dollar : $25 from dad, $25 from mom = $50...$50 for the jeans ....-$5 for the discount, that brings it to $45, Leaving you with a difference of $5 ....$1 to dad , and $1 to mom = $2 leaving a difference of $3....$45 spent + $3 you have left over = $48 + $1 to mom + $1 to dad = $50 .....so basically , $50 - $45 = $5 - $2 = $3 + $45 = $48 + $2 to parents = $50

25 mom + 25 dad = 50 total. Jeans 50-5=45 spent. 50 total money have - 45 spent =5 left over. 1 mom +1 dad =2 paid back. You have 3 left in your hand. Owe mom 24 + owe dad 24 + 3 in your hand does = 51. If you would have paid mom 2 + dad 2 = 4 you would have 1 in your hand and owe mom 23 + dad 23 = 46. Owe mom and dad together 46 + 1 in your hand = 47. A difference of 3. WOW!!! I hope you explain this. Both of these scenarios.

Mother gave you $25, Father gave you '$25' Jeans cost $45. You have $5 change. You returned $1 to your mother and $1 to your father. So you ultimately received $48 from you parents. You have a pair of $45 jeans and $3 change. Where is the problem.

You are adding the amount you now owe your parents to the amount of cash you currently have. There should be a negitive sign infront of each of the $24 ($3-$24-$24=-$45). Another way to look at it is that you are really calculating the amount of money you owe when you add $24 + $24. You should subtract the $3 ($48-$3=$45) instead of adding it.

Sounds to me like you ripped off Dad. If the jeans are $50 why did you borrow $75.00 you have money extra because you got the $5.00 discount. so you have $75.00 minus $45.00 = $30.00 not 50
