In very general terms, our basic human needs influence how we behave.
Our need for significance, variety, certainty and connection/love will cuase us to behave in a whole manner of ways.
If any activity we engage in satisfies all these needs to an intensity of greater than 7 out of 10, then that activity becomes psychologically addictive.
eg. sex addicts find that they have their need for variety met to a 10, their need to feel significant met to a 10, their need for certainty met to a 7 and their need for connection met to a 10.
when you meet the basic needs in this way, the hypothalamus in the brain releases loads of tiny protien strings called peptides. each emotional state has it's own peptide which connects to the cells in our body and this is what makes us 'feel' the emotion physically.
we can become physically addicted to these peptides, meaning that we can actually become physically addicted to the emotional state. when we are addicted to anger, or joy, or lust, then we sub-consciously create the circumstances (through our behaviour) whereby we are put in the state that will illicit that emotional response.
so people who are always let down by people, may be addicted to the emotional response that will be created by being let down. they don't enjoy it, but they do get an emotional 'rush' out of it and it's an emotional rush that feeds their physical addiction. it probably meets their need for significance and variety and certainty and cinnection(with themselves). so they subconsciously and without awaking conscious awareness pick people who are untrustworthy and put their trust in them.

our behaviour depends on many things. one primary factor is our genetics what traits are built it. after that we are influenced by our parents and up bringing what are we taught is acceptable and what do our parents bring us up to be IE how should we behave what language should we speak. another factor is culture and what does our culture teach us after that it is primarily external influences such as our friends the media and what is going on in our lives

We do, for the most part. Sometimes we can't help feeling a certain way, but how we behave is a choice.

we behave based on two forces:
1. Internal - This are things that are naturally occurring to us, our natural stimuli as human beings. (e.g. our reaction if we touch ho objects, our genes, etc.)
2. External - Anything that is beyond our body's control: How we were brought up, our current financial situation, our charactr and values, the society's norms.

Our environment influences our behaviour. Self and environment are one. If you ever wonder why someone is being nasty to you, turn the pointed finger round at yourself and you will be shocked! When you change yourself, your environment changes! How bizarre!!! Check out www.sgi-uk.org and click on Buddhism.

It is cumulative effect of what we are and what we have gone through in our life. The environment that we have been brought up.
Our behaviur is a mixture of mental status which has been moulded, by our experiences in the social life and and our physical status.
