Well you could freak them out by having coffin sized holes dug in it at night and then filled in just to leave grave style curved heaps all over it, a couple a night, maybe wait till one of the nieghbours goes on holiday to do that and everyone is asking, wheres Mrs Jinks? have you seen the new mound in the field? and so on. That could be good. Its your field. Plant some trees in it.

tell them you are going to rent it to travellers!

At the end of the day its your land and although they can object to certain plans you may have they have to be reasonable objections to cause you any problems.

Find out if their is planning permission on the land or if it will be easy to get hold of.

Chances are one of your neighbours are thinking of buying the land from you (to take it off your hands) then they will sell it on at 4-5 times the amount for some company to build a house.

To deal with the awkward neighbours, stop being polite. Tell them if they don't like your ideas about the land to put it in writing to your local council because you don't care and are going to do what you please

It may only be 1/4 of an acre but its worth a lot, particularly if you want to have a bigger garden. My boyfriend has a bit of land and his neighbours keep on bugging him for some of it, turns out if he gave them what they wanted then it'll increase their house value by £1/4 million! So keep hold of that feild! These people don't have to be your friends!

I think that they are just worried because "real estate" is a mother f'er. The things that your neighbor do or don't can seriously bring the value of your own property up or down drastically. Anyway, be nice and ask for suggestions... then thank them... and do what you want as long as it doesn't ruin the land or neighborhood. In the end, it is your land and home... it's not like you'd criticize their creativity... maybe they're just nervous about what I mentioned...Chances are they might like what you have in mind once they see it... granted it's tasteful... Good Luck!!!

They are probably worried that you're going to build on the land. Perhaps the previous owner has mooted this suggestion and now they're worried about an intensive development. If this isn't your plan, just reassure them. If it is, you'll have some explaining to do. (Unless you find the buried treasure first!)

Tell them your field has been bought by compulsory purchase order and you have no idea why the government want it. But men with American accents and dark sunglasses were sniffing around making noises about extraterrestrial fungal type air born spores.

Why not ask someone about the history of the field? It might have been part of something else, or maybe the previous owner allowed others to use it for something.

You know the old saying..."Fences make the best neighbors"!!! Besides, it's your land...be proud to own it and do what you want with it. I'm sure whatever you have in mind will be better then using it as a burial ground...ha, ha, ha!

Tell them you are going to turn it into a family cemetary that might stop their nosiness or tell them you are going to put a bull in the field untethered.

I would just ask them or maybe even check some old news papers see if there is something historical about it? How about asking the sheriff?
