Hi,
I'm about to get married in a few months. My fiancee has an idea to get pre-marital health exam for both us. I think that's a great idea.
However, she wants both of us to go and see her ob/gyn for this exam. I don't mind with female doctor checking on my body, but it's just that she's an ob/gyn. Can an ob/gyn doing a health exam on man? I'm not questioning her ability as a doctor or anything. It's just that her specialization that's kinda raise a bit of concerns. I've asked my fiancee the same question, and she said she's able to do it. I'm not gonna ask her the same question twice, otherwise she's gonna be very upset with me. She's been seeing this doctor for years. I've met her as well on several occasions. She's actually very nice and kind.
Any advice/suggestions?
Thanks!

OK Team! Let's get real, we are talking about an ob/gyn here. Yes, she can do the GP thing. But consider this, if they have a little spat, can't you just see her telling everybody her new hubby went to an ob/gyn? NanetteW has got it right. Definite control issues.
Show the man some respect. Tell me, honestly, how many guys do YOU know who go to an ob/gyn? RIGHT! The ones who have had a special type of surgery. This would really cast a shadow on his sexuality.
Let him go with her, and if there is a regular GP in the office, he can go there, but NOT to an ob/gyn!

Why does your fiance want you to go to her doctor? And why are you scared to ask her twice? I think your statement that "otherwise she's gonna be very upset" suggests that your fiancee has already started 'training' you with emotional blackmail, a very bad habit, indeed. And the whole doctor thing is very unusual, and sounds like she has control issues. You are in some murky water here, my dear. My suggestion is that you go to your own doctor, and if the fiancee can't handle that, you call off the wedding until she gets some individual counseling and you get joint couples counseling, as well. And even if she consents to you choosing your own doctor so that you can establish an independent relationship with a health-care provider -- which we each should have, in case we need someone to consult for any reason -- you should really get couples counseling together, and make sure that you both understand "Boundaries". If you don't do this, if you don't learn to set boundaries with your fiancee, I can guarantee that you'll regret it.

Actually an OB/GYN has trained further in medicine than just a GP. They have specialized in their field and can drop back and do everything a GP can do. A brain surgeon can even do a prostate exam; yaddah. Why are you whining if a woman wants to play doctor with you anyway?????

Pre marital health exam is very important for u both. If you have that problem maybe this should useful. The best way by visiting the hospital that her obgyn doctor had clinic inside. You could find a medical health care pack. Meet the customer service to manage it. So she can meet her doctor though in one place and you'll be examine by a general practitioner, not by her doctor.

A pre-marital health exam usually consists of a blood and urine test. I would imagine any licensed doctor can do that because all they do is collect it and send it to a lab.

Go! It may be more fun than you are anticipating. If she has been seeing her for years how do you know the plan? Playing doctor is great, playing WITH the doctor is better!

Sure, she can do what is needed for the check-up. However if you are the least uncomfortable, you can go to a doc of your choice. All the results and paperwork will be available either way.
