Advantages: child maintains some structure like keeping the same friends, staying in the same school, community, etc. Child can also have easy access to parents and visitation with family if it is deemed safe.

Disadvantages: Young children often do not understand having to move and run away from fosterhome back to their family. Biological family interferes with child's placement. Child's family is too close to allow child to bond with foster family.

To be honest, I don't think it's a great idea. The child was removed from the home for a reason and it's always best to keep the child away from that situation until it's cleared up. I was a foster child with an alcoholic mother. I think keeping me away from her was the best thing. It prompted her to clean up her act.
