People give rude, obnoxious, and non-applicable answers to questions. For example, why do people answer a question about legal recourse for harassment, and not give any information about that issue? Why don't people ask for more details in a question instead of assuming things?

I have been wondering the same thing for about 2 days myself. I would have to say they do it because they are ignorant. They are so ignorant that they do not even realise that the time spent posting rude, obnoxious, stupid (not funny) REPLYS - not ANSWERS, is wasted time. They are only annoying other people who are at this YAHOO ANSWERS place to use it as it is meant to be used. Maybe their TV blew out, so they are forced to go without their usual fix of HEE HAW re-runs. They obviously shoudl be posting QUESTIONS-but apparently are not bright enough to form a question. MAY I SUGGEST THAT YOU PEOPLE WE ARE REFERRING TO JUST USE THE MOUSE, NOT THE KEYBOARD. You don't HAVE TO ASK OR ANSWER YOU KNOW... You could just READ. That would be fine with us all I am sure....

I apologize for using this ANSWER space to communicate with all of those people who try to answer questions that they don't have the answer to. But I couldn't help but VENT when I found a person wondering the same exact question as I have been!!

The thing is, a lot of the questions being asked have the answers already on the internet, takes wording the query the right way and your favourite search engine will provide the knowledge you seek. Maybe not with the "ok so I like this guy and he likes me but maybe not should I ask him out or wait or...." type questions but as the saying goes, ask a stupid question....

You are absolutely right !! I feel most people are in a hurry to get two points and so we find answers like " aw" "um" "hehe" "lol" etc. as well some with real stupid replies.

Also, I find many persons writing out the same question within a span of five or ten minutes - real strange !!

Hence, its a pleasure to know someone out there thinks like me on this aspect !!

To get free points or also because they have no life. It's a problem with any open resource and is effectively impossible to screen against without defeating the whole purpose. However, useless answers are easy to ignore and do not detract from the overall usefulness of this site

Because a lot of them are just after a measly 2 points, so they just answer all the questions they want without really knowing what it is about. They're just bored don't worry about them just take in the information that helps and ignore the rest.

Some people do it just for fun and the two holly points. Some others answer with accuracy and full details, others mix fun with serious detailed answers depending on the context of the question.

Because sometimes ppl answer a question before they realize that there are multiple angles from which the question is being asked. I have done that, by mistake, a couple of times, and ppl always do that to me. I just disregard those answers, and read the ones that apply to, and best answer, my questions.

Well ...
( Maybe this is one of the stuped answers also ... but nevermind :) )

"Everyone is on his own !"

Sometime it's because of ages ( puberts give more unadequate answers than aged ones ( at least i think so ) ).
Sometime it's because of "individual state of the mind"
( well known relations between education and social groupes which is close to the one that answer )
Sometime it's like saying "Hello!" ( just like to be in the group with nice people ), and also it's a way to meet others with close to your way of thinking :).
Well ... Sometimes ... Sometimes :)

( p.s. i'm sorry about my English :)

I have often wondered that myself... the only explanation/answer I can come up with is that many of those who ask questions here and answer questions here are children.
Teens, pre-teens, and younger.
Those who are not and yet still ask and answer in such ways are immature and therefore incappable of logical thinking.

for some, its all about the points. no matter what you write, yahoo will give up 2 points. but i definitely agree with what you are saying. too bad there isn't a penalty for the rude and stupid answers.
