Navajo, maybe. I know they are on their ancestral lands. I think they got to keep it because the government didn't see it as useful for anything.

If you are really interested in a great history of the treatment of the Native Americans by the government, read BURY MY HEART AT WOUNDED KNEE by Dee Brown. It covers most of the tribes. Another good book is 500 NATIONS which was made into a mini series.

(next day)------OK, I looked it up in 500 Nations. It was the Seminoles. This was the costliest in both men and money, of all the Indian Wars to the US government and they didn't win it. They finally gave up. The Seminoles continused to live as many do today in their villages in the Everglades. The University named for them, by the way, is Florida State.

Several tribes, including many in the Southwest (Navajo and Pueblo) still live on ancestral lands, but these lands were made into reservation.

I do know that while a portion of the Seminole Nation moved West as a result of the Seminole Wars, some remained defiantly in Florida. A band of Seminole retreated into the Everglades and remained following the Second Seminole War in the 1840s. I believe there was never a formal treaty of any sort made, meaning they never surrendered.

OK I'm thinking like JB and it's the Seminoles, not because there was any treaty (like anybody paid attention to the treaties) but because they lived in the Everglades and werent caught by the army. Andrew Jackson was a bigger scumbag than George Bush, and that's saying A LOT

They stole America from the Native Indians, once the Natives were annihilated in a quiet genocide. Then the government, stole Blacks and Japanese and used them as slaves to build up their countries. The USA was built on blood and killings, and no of any other way to deal with tension or international politics.

The Seminoles. The majority stayed on their land because they copyrighted their name to Florida State University.

I thought the Navajo and the Hopi both got to stay on their own land, though they have had a traditional dispute over the land.

Most got to stay on their own land, my tribe is still on its ancestral homelands in the deserts of Nevada... We just didn't get to keep the 'prime' areas, that's all....besides being on smaller tracts.
