This particular noise is usually associated with an electrical solonoid
under the hood,it is a "normal" noise, manufacturers do a great job insulating most of the normal noises but they simply cannot get them all.

To be safe, and while still under warranty, ask the dealership`s service manager/lead tech to go with you on a short test drive and point out the noise.(yes,it`s can be a pain but it`s better safe than sorry)

This i cannot stress enough concerning new car/truck warranties, dont ever be afraid to seek service while your warranty is in effect, you paid handsomely for it,keep careful documentation as well.

good luck!

I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with the Hemi and the off road package ( what is now the TRX4 package) This was the first year it came out. I have not heard of this problem before and I am constantly search the web for common problems. I would ask the service manager or a service tech to take a ride with you so that you can point out the noise you are hearing. Plus you still have the bumper to bumper warranty....use it before it gone. The problem that I have had and other including my best friend which has the same truck as I do....is the rear and front gasket on the rear end leak. I've had both replace and I have 44000 miles. Good luck to you.

5.7 Hemi Engine Noise

For my trucks first oil change I used Mobile 1 Synthetic.
Soon after I noticed a taping noise when towing my boat, by a wall or in a tunnel.
I started using premium gas but that did not make a difference.
I planned on taking it back to the dealer but did not get to it right away.
For the next oil change I took it to one of those 10 min oil change places and they put regular Valvoline 5/30 in
The noise went away and I never used Mobile 1 again.

As a mechanic friend of mine told me when I asked the same question about my Caravan: "A Chrysler engine is like a Timex; if it ain't ticking, it ain't running!"

Seriously though, if you want to determine whether or not it's a lifter, take a 1/2 inch wooden dowel and use it as a listening device at each cylinder. More than likely, you'll find, as I did, that it's not a problem, just a normal noise. In my C'van, it turned out to be fuel injector noise.

I've had people complain about this quite a bit. From what i understand, it's a lifter noise that resonates through the exhaust. It's normal, but can be more profound from truck to truck. It's really nothing to worry about.
