People, instead of practicing what a messiah, prophet, guru, avtaar practiced and preached, they start forming religions. It's their unawareness, inferiority complex, power over others-not within, which starts religions.

Depends on what you call a "religion".

-Judaism: God. And this is interesting, too b/c the first ones whom God called (the patriarchs) were all about having a relationship with God. But then after the Law was set into place, it was about religion (except for those few that actually WANTED a relationship with God). Then Jesus came and set back the need for a relationship with God.

-Jesus started up Christianity, but Christianity isn't a "Religion"...it's a relationship with God through His Son, Jesus.

-Joseph Smith started up Mormonism, but since that's a different gospel from that of Jesus Christ, you could say Satan started it up. (Galatians 1:8-9)

-Ron Hubbard was a fictional author who found no money in fiction, and decided to start up a religion (it's on tape...a real TV interview)...which is what he did...ever hear of Dianetics? Scientology? Yep...fictional author.

-Mohammad (I know I'll catch heat for this one) started up Islam, but once again, it's not in sync with the Gospel of Jesus Christ (though much of it was taken from it, and Muslims claim that Islam is "incomplete" without Jesus). But the God of Christians is not the same as the God of Islam (their characteristics and personalities are COMPLETELY different), so I guess you could say Mohammad started up Islam...

-Buddhah (spelling?) started up Buddhism, but then it's said that he found God before he died...anyway....

-Hinduism & the caste system: I have no idea who started this...probably some rich family that wanted to justify their greed and crappy behavior towards the poor.

-Naziism, obviously Hitler (yes it was/is a religious cult).

That's about all I can think of now...eh, it's late. Hope that helped.
