Okay, so like in December I might get a pomeranian if my grades are good first semester. And I was wondering to people who have pomeranians-- Do they shed a lot? And any other things about them would be helpful to know beforehand..

You are wise to do homework ahead of time.
Pomeranians are lots of fun, and good to go anywhere. My friends take theirs hiking, and he never gets tired.
The MOST important thing, is to get from a good breeder. Poms are so adorable and popular that too many people just breed for the money, and don't care about health and genetic defects.

Don't feed any corn or soy or beet pulp in his kibble. This will cause skin problems, and excessive shedding.

They don't shed much, as their hair clumps and matts if not kept groomed, but it doesn't just get everywhere.

Well, I own a pom right now, so I can try to be of assistance.

This particular pom does not shed that much, but we have to brush her out otherwise the fur gets matted from all the, well, fur.

A few things to keep in mind are that they're quite opinionated (read yappy) and that they have a tendancy to bond with someone (Most likely you in this case) and may or may not mope around when said person is away.

Of course, my particular pom is slightly neurotic, so I can't be entirely sure of the normal standards.

But expect yappiness, lots of yappiness.

They're cute little buggers though.

My dog is half Pomeranian and she does shed. But as long as we brush her every few days, it does not make a mess. These are cute dogs that look like stuffed animals. Some are known to be noisy, mean, and fussy eaters, but mine is very quiet and shy. She's super cute and tender!

I have 2 Poms. They shed just about as much as any other dog. They need to be brushed frequently, however, because they get a lot of knots. They are very prone to Thyroid conditions that make them lose all their hair and need medication to grow it back. Otherwise, they are extremely good dogs if trained properly.

We have a neighber who has a pomeranian. It barks at everything. I think they're cute, but I don't think I would get one just because they are so yappy.

They're so popular because of their cute face. That's the only thing I like about them. There are disadvantages of owning one. They shed a lot, they get matts easily, they're finicky eaters, stubborn, difficult to train, not amongst the most intelligent dog breeds, and oh yeah, they're loud and annyoing little yappers. They bark a lot to prove that they're not afraid of anything. They think of themselves as big beasts. They don't listen and try to treat their masters as their pets. We had a Pom and our neighbors complained because of the excessive barking. We had to give him away. Years later, we got ourselves a Toy Poodle. They're the best of the toy breeds. They're intelligent, therefore easy to train, doesn't bark at everything, only when they need to, and have beautiful, gorgeous faces.

Oh my god, don't get a pomeranian. My gram got one, she said she shed a lot and it came out in clumps. The dog is stupid, and so noisy and bad. Don't do it.
