which schools are u talking about. Many schools are extremely watchful of how much religion the teachers are allow to mention. Students are allowed to practice religion, that is their right under the constitution

When u mean religion do u mean schools that include intelligent design to many of the lectures? Or teachers that are told to not teach evolution? that is against the separation of religion and state, which would be considered against law.

Advocate groups are already going after schools that still teach intelligent design etc etc, and if u know a school please inform them. I mean doesnt the ACLU do this, or maybe another group, but their contact info are everywhere.

I think the problem is the choices of religion in public schools. If you want your child to learn about religion, schools give the option of atheism or christianity and thats it. Schools should not teach religion as such, but teach about the different kinds, the history of different kinds and a general summary of all the major religions and then let the students believe what they want.

Getting rid of religion in public schools would violate the first amendment. The schools do not force religion on anyone. If a student has a religion, then they have the right to believe it and practice it. To prevent a person of faith from praying in thanks over their food or forcing them to behave in a manner that violates their principles is an atrocity and the makings of an Orwellian goverment nightmare.

Well, according to the US Supreme Court, secular humanism is a religion. So, if you first want to take out the "theistic" religions like Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, etc., then you'll also have to get rid of secular humanism.

Gee, that would mean no one in the schools!

Would you like to give an incomplete education? Whether you believe in them or no, religions exists. To completely get rid of all traces of religion in education would be to be in denial of a foundational and undeniable part of the world. So yes, we could put the blinders on and deny religion in schools or maybe we could actually teach our students about how the world outside these sanitized walls actually works.

The best way is to donate money to the ACLU, who are the true defenders of our rights and freedoms. They are the ones battling to keep religion out of public schools and such in accordance with our US Constitution.

I think it'd be better if schools taught more than one religion. Give the kids a choice! :)

In all my years of Catholic school (UGH!) I only ever had one teacher who taught more than the crap he was forced to. He got fired for speaking his mind, and trying to REALLY teach us about religion. Not just the Catholic/Christian beliefs, but everything.

It was a real shame to lose him, as that was possibly the only time I ever felt that religion had a chance of happening in my life. Not a western religion, of course. Probably Buddhism. Something more... um... peaceful. And less overbearing. :)

Too bad, now I'm just a crazy old lady who has her entire own set of beliefs. Oh no! Thinking for one's self! Whatever shall I do?!

:)

As a student: omit "under "god" from the pledge when reciting it.

As a parent: tie up your loose ends. You failed to raise up your child without brainwashing your beliefs into him/her or letting others do it. It's your fault so right your wrongs and talk to your kid and tell him what YOU think about religion. Then you can petition the governor or anyone to change the pledge, then the money, and to keep creationism out of schools and only within churches.

First we'd need to know what religion there is in public schools. (?)

Oh. You mean Christmas? Yes. Christ + mas=Christ+birth

That's a cool vacation. Why would we want to get rid of that?
