The only way to really stay sober while drinking is to drink really slowly! You can drink a whole bottle of vodka and stay sober if a month passes before you finish it ;-) If you want to drink and be sober after then drink only a glass of something during supper for example and let the evening for your body to eliminate it! Drink lots of water to compensate dehydration and if it's only the feeling that bothers you then munch at the same time or eat a high fat snack (like with peanut butter) before drinking.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose (read: fun) of drinking? ;-)
Some people get drunk faster because of gender and/or weight and other biological issues including some illnesses and medicines they are regularly taking.
As you drink alcohol, make sure to snack on some food and don't have more than one shot every hour. When you start out, make sure you had eaten a full meal.
Some drinks are more alcoholic than others. For example, they can be dilluted with juice, melting ice, etc.
Getting used to alcohol through frequent practice works as well, but to a point. For example, alcoholics get drunk faster.

you know, the crap about the food in your stomach absorbing the alcohol so you can drink more is CRAP. Where do you think the alcohol-laced food in your stomach goes? Far far away to a distant land? No, in your BODY... it just doesn't hit your blood stream at the speed of light. So it ends up SLOWING down the initial buzz, but needless to say, it's still all there and going to be absorbed at one point or another... so now you've drank more alcohol than you WOULD have on an empty stoumach cause you're not feeling as buzzed as quick and then...all of a sudden... YOU'RE TRASHED AND WEARING MENS PANTS AND LICKING THE UNDERSIDE OF A TABLE LEG!!!
*ahem*

You can't (and why would you want to?). You can try eating before you start pounding the 'juice'. Or, an old wives' tale, drink a little olive oil before consuming mass quantities of alcohol. In the end you'll still need to drink in moderation....you're brain will fry if you don't.

Drinking on a full stomach (after dinner). The alcohol will take longer to get into your system. But you still can't drink a whole lot and avoid getting drunk completely.

You do not drink alot of alcohol and stay sober. I've had people tell me they drank and drank and just couldn't get drunk. Well, I think those people were lieing through their teeth. And I speak from experience. You drink alot, you get drunk. You drink a little, you begin to get drunk. You drink nothing, you stay sober. Facts are facts. Stay safe. Save your life. Stay sober. Please.
And thanks lunakitty for your answer on food consumption and alcohol absorbtion.

Why would you want to do that? I don't understand the point of your question. Generally, people drink a lot of alcohol because they want to get drunk. If you want to stay sober, then don't drink. ?????

Don't drink a lot. Or, if you must drink a lot, do it over a long period, like 1 drink an hour or two.
