K I'm an atheist with a Christian girlfriend so we have our little debates on religion all the time but there are 2 Qs I can never get her to answer.

I find it funny that a so called higher being (god) can just do all this magical stuff build a planet build creatures build a human and have them all just appear. I'd love to see how this is possible in reality not the fantasy world of a so called being named god.

Then were did (god) come from did he just appear out of no where billions and billions of years ago and say "Hey I'm going to build trillions of planets and make a race of animals that will rule 1 world"

Plz help me out here.

Well personally I find I easier to believe in a Creator God than to believe that we all came out of a primeval soup!

Right, where do i start.... I think it's great that you challenge the things that don't make sense to you, although i would not call you "open minded", as you have proclaimed yourself an atheist, that believes in nothing and no one.

I can say on my part, that i also have allot of issues with Christianity, especially the bible and actually any form of organized religion, so i can see where you are coming from. I think the problem is that you are asking the wrong questions.

"How were we and the world created", and " Where did God come from", are questions that no human being, neither an atheist nor the pope himself, can claim to have the answer to.
If you ask these kind of questions, you will always get answers like: " God is all mighty, don't question him", or " God works in mysterious ways " etc. Or on the other hand, that " It's all bull" :)

There are hundreds of questions that are so much more interesting. What IS God? Where does the name "GOD" come from? Why is there supposed to be only ONE GOD, when every ancient civilization from Sumerians to Mayans to Greeks to Egyptians, Romans, Phoenicians and at least a dozen others, have always had 12 "gods" that they worshiped?

How can Christianity, with its meager 2000 years of existence have the nerve to declare all believes before it false and in some cases even "evil"?

The bible is a big issue for me as well. This is a work, that has been translated and probably re-written and edited many times and it is ridiculous to take it literally. I think the bible needs to be read like a poem: Open to interpretation. Nobody can claim to know exactly what the author was trying to bring across. If 10 people read a poem, we could have 10 different interpretations.

Religion is a subject that i and I'm sure countless others could discuss forever. I'm sorry to say, that nobody can answer your questions except yourself. The important thing is that we use our "god-given" free will and think about life and all the things in it.
Keep an open mind, study the religions and if you find comfort in any of them, all of them, a mix of a few or your own theories, then that's cool. As long as you don't offend anyone along the way, you can think and research as much as you like.

I think it is scary, how some insignificant little mortals can assume that " their truth" that they have found is the only "right" path in this world.

There are no "rights" and "wrongs" in mine.

Creation of the World
The Creation

The word of G-d brought everything into being: heaven and earth, mountains and rivers, and every living thing. In the beginning, G-d called into existence the heaven and earth. Within six days He shaped a world of order and beauty.

The first day

On the first day, G-d said, “Let there be Light” -- and there was Light.

The second day

On the second day G-d made the sky, and called it Heaven.

Third the day

On the third day, G-d put the earth into good shape. At His command the waters of the earth gathered together at certain places. The waters formed seas and oceans, lakes and rivers, so that in other parts, the dry land became visible.

At G-d’s further command, the earth was made to produce all kinds of plants, grass, and trees, shrubs and flowers. Each contained its own seed for further growth and reproduction.

The Fourth Day

On the fourth day, G-d made the Sun, the Moon, and the Stars, to shed light upon the earth. And so He set a time for day and a time for night, a time for the week, the month, and the year, and a time for each of the four seasons.

The Fifth Day

On the fifth day, G-d filled the seas with fishes and other water animals. In to the air above the earth He put many birds of all kinds and colors and sizes.

The Sixth Day

On the sixth day, were created all the other animals, large and small, those that walk and those that creep or crawl on the earth. And towards the end of the sixth day, G-d put a divine soul into a body which He made of earth and clay. This was the human.

To the human G-d granted high mental ability that one could think and reach one’s own conclusions. G-d also gave the human the power of speech and He made humans superior to all other creatures of the earth.

G-d placed all the creatures of the earth and the powers of nature in the control of the human.

The Seventh Day

By the seventh day, everything was created and put into shape and order. And G-d rested on the seventh day and He glorified it as a day of rest. Therefore we should work for six days and rest on the Seventh day, Shabbat, which G-d blessed and sanctified for all time to come. By observing the Shabbat day, we show that we believe in G-d as the Creator of the world.

God is all powerful and therefore can do whatever He wants. If you look into the science of creation you will see how much more believable it is over evolution. You wouldn't find a watch on the street and believe that it happened to be there by chance you ould know someone made the watch. Why is it then when we look at the world (far more complex than a watch) do we think it got here by accident.

God exists outside of time. The rules of time and space do not apply to God. To say He always existed or existed for a really long time do not apply, Time does not exist for God so your second question is not valid. It's hard to comprehend because we can't imagine things not having time but thats the way it is.

As for your girlfriend tell her to break up with you because a Christian should not be dating an atheist.

I thinkyou are only on here to keep an argument going, I don't really think that you WANT to know if there is a god out there or not. YOu seem pretty self satisfied in your reasoning that you are the end all and be all of your own esistance. Fine. Have it your way. Til Armegeddon and then All will Know that Jehovah is the Supreme Sovereign of the universe and you'll understand things much more clearly then. I'm really not trying to be a smart aleck here, but there are so many people that I have met that are just like you, that this is the conclusion I have had to draw. Your day will come when it will hit you like a ton of bricks and you will realize what so many of us have tried to tell you over the years and you'll realize there IS a god, that he IS awesome and mighty in his power and that you've missed out on something spectacularly grand.
I"m not going to stick around and argue with you, I have better ways to spend my time. I just hope you can find the truth before it is too late for you.
I'm here if you want to ask me any questions personally about God or if you want an introduction.

I may not be the best Christian to answer this exact question, but here goes:

I believe that God created existence with the laws of physics, science, maths, and such already in place. I believe God made things like billions of years of evolution part of his plan. (I mean, what, was He in a hurry? He's supposedly immortal, right?)

And with evolution, there is some luck involved. God probably intended there to be numerous worlds were life could evolve, but Earth (maybe?) is the only one. This might not even be the first time God created the universe. Maybe the first time didn't go so right.

In any case, that's my opinion. Not popular. Never will be. But at least I am NOT afraid to admit I came from a monkey!

No problem. Please forgive me, I am not trying to be rude, but you are thinking very narrow mindedly. It's not magic, it is a higher realm (or demension if you'd like). Imagine trying to explain to a 2 demensional line, what the properties of a three demensional cube are. Or even trying to explain to a three demensional cube what the properties of a 4 demensional cube traveling a 60 mph are. You simply couldn't do it. God is not restricted to the physical laws of our universe. It is certainly not magic.
Also, time is a finite measurement, and something that can be effected by gravity, and other physical factors in our universe, and our universe is finite. God is infinite, and eternal. Something that is eternal has no beginnig or end.
The Big Bang does not make logical sense as the ultimate explanation for our origins, because it defies the 2nd law of thermodynamics. Furthermore it does not explain an eternal existence. The scientific laws of conservation do not allow for matter or energy to just appear or disappear, so anything that exists now, either existed for eternity or had an eternal creator. Something that is eternal does not have a beginning; therefore our universe must have an eternal creator. The universe existed as tiny super dense speck for an eternity and then suddenly exploded. What prompted it to explode? This requires some chain of events to cause the explosion, otherwise it would have continued in its tiny state forever. And a perpetually expanding and collapsing universe defies the laws of physics: an isolated thermodynamic model will approach a maximum value of entropy towards an ultimate state of INERT uniformity. No matter what way you spin it; you can try to explain it with some kind of quantum time or a multi-verse model, but you are only setting the problem off to the side.
What kills me is that people think that they have proven that God doesn't have to exists by proving that the universe had a scientific beginning, but by doing so they are only proving that God must exist.
Virtually nothing, then BANG BOOM; a universe is born. Sounds like something God would do to me. God is certainly not restricted to the laws of science, but he did create them. So it makes sense that he would make use of the science that he designed.

P.S. What kind of and infinite God would the creator of the universe be if our little 10lbs(or whatever) brains could fully compute everything about him. Whether you like it or, not everything that you think you know is based on something that you just accepted on faith. It's the way the human mind works.

First...life is magical. No one really knows how all this got started. For many of us, we believe in God - that He is the origin. That's belief, not knowledge.

But I'd like to turn the question back on you since you so easily dismiss what others believe. So...you tell me - how did we get here? And if you say the Big Bang, then...how did that get started? And then...what created what started the Big Bang? Do you see how silly this gets? Come on, give your girlfriend a break and talk about something else. Just because a person can't prove their belief doesn't make it right or wrong. A belief just is.

Many Blessings,
Lilyth

"Who made God?"

To one who examines the evidence, there can be no doubt that God exists. Every building has a builder. Everything made has a maker. The fact of the existence of the Creator is axiomatic (self-evident). That’s why the Bible says, "The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God’" (Psalm 14:1). The professing atheist denies the common sense given to him by God, and defends his belief by thinking that the question "Who made God?" can’t be answered. This, he thinks, gives him license to deny the existence of God.

The question of who made God can be answered by simply looking at space and asking, "Does space have an end?" Obviously, it doesn’t. If there is a brick wall with "The End" written on it, the question arises, "What is behind the brick wall?" Strain the mind though it may, we have to believe (have faith) that space has no beginning and no end. The same applies with God. He has no beginning and no end. He is eternal.

The Bible also informs us that time is a dimension that God created, into which man was subjected. It even tells us that one day time will no longer exist. That will be called "eternity." God Himself dwells outside of the dimension He created (2 Timothy 1:9, Titus 1:2). He dwells in eternity and is not subject to time. God spoke history before it came into being. He can move through time as a man flips through a history book.

Because we live in the dimension of time, logic and reason demand that everything must have a beginning and an end. We can understand the concept of God’s eternal nature the same way we understand the concept of space having no beginning and end—by faith. We simply have to believe they are so, even though such thoughts put a strain on our distinctly insufficient cerebrums.

Where did first life come from? You must agree there was a first. I think its more likely there was already a first life opposed to something creating first life because that would mean a life created first life. We can't have that. Therefore the first life was already life. What did that life have in mind? Did it have a mind? YOU DO! So you can say-it did. Do you think you are more intelligent than first life? Everything man knows all put together is nothing compared to what is. Isn't it logical to say first life would know? First life created everything that made it possible for you to be alive. First life has seen everything from its beginning but its beginning is probably the only thing it does not know. This answer does not really prove there is a God as we think about in our daily lives but it does prove there was first life witch we can call the supreme being. Now the Q. is, would this supreme being have the power to ask us to believe in Him?

Well, this "Being" has a name more significant than just "God"...and His ways are higher & definitely infinitely more sophiscated than anything we humans can even imagine. Just examine the history of humanity itself....just alittle over 50 years ago we did not even have television, we couldn't even imagine the very concept! Yet look at how much our technology advances every single day! We create things that were not possible.
God the Father, Jesus Christ His only Son, & the Holy Spirit (3 beings/One GOD) have existed in eternity..no beginning or end...a very SIMPLE explaination: look at a gold band (ring) where is the beginning? or the end?..
Eternity or "timelessness" is one of the theories that Einstein was attempting to explain, & in the process of that "explaination", he went from being an atheist to becoming a deist (one who belives in God) Quite an accomplishment....the more you seek knowledge (and wisdom) the more you come to know that God really does exist! And what a Magnificent God He really is!
