Motrin is a smooth muscle relaxer, Your uterus is a smooth muscle. start taking Motrin a day or 2 before your period is due and continue for the 1st day or 2 of your cycle. If Motrin doesn't help or if pain is severe see a gyn doc. you may have endrometerosis.

My heart goes out to you, for I've had it lots of times before the birth of my two children. I found that if I take two Motrin tabs(or Midol) then get a towel, get it wet with the hottest temperature you can stand without getting burn, then put your heating pad on the bed, lay your moist hot towel on it and lay on it on your tummy. The thing you have to do if you get a lot of cramps, is to get the pills, towel, heating pad and a waterproof pad together in one place so you can get to it as soon as possible without wasting time getting everything you need. Don't despair it will go away when you get older.

You could also try having ginger tea, it helps soothe the pain or if in case you don't like tea, simply grate a small piece of ginger in 1 cup of water, bring to a boil, strain and drink. You can add sugar if you like, dosen' taste great but it will help with the cramps temporarily.

If its really bad, try and get a prescription for Spasmoproxyvon from your doctor, it's the best medicine for your discomfort.

ya fomentation does help relieving cramps in some cases as it is spasmodic pain. However personally i feel that exercising or keeping on the move helps more. Try not to laze around, or lie down. just keep working and carrying out daily work and divert your mind from the pain. If nothing helps, you could resort to anti-spasmodic pain relievers like morphine hydrochloride.

It might be for some people, but not all. Some people take ibuprofen/pamprin/midol or caffeine, others exercise. If you're looking for the best method for yourself, test different suggestions and see.
