If someone chooses to not eat meat, what is wrong with that? Why would some accuse that person of ignorance just because he or she chose to not eat meat?

People don't like people who aren't doing what they are doing. Conformity is key. Anything else is "wrong."

I dont have a problem with it. More tasty animals for me to eat. move over and hand me the ketchup.

Humans are predatory beings. we catch and kill things, in fact we like to kill things. The animals are going to die anyway whether is by another predator or old age. so they might as well be on my plate. I am an omnivore, so i eat everything. Vegetarians often forget that the rest arent carnivores. Even atkins dietiers are omnivores.

I would say that strict permanent veganism, not vegetarianism, is ignorant because there are a lot of good things in meat that dont exist int eh same way in any vegetables. But we could probably all eat some more vegetables.

If you want to avoid negative reactions, then hold back the vegetarian crusading and people will be cooler to you. i dont knwo what you do, so I cant say. maybe youa re the coolest cat in the alley.

"Heres some more coleslaw. Its made with soyonaise. it only makes you gag at first. Then you cant taste anything. The soy anesthatises your throat."

It's not ignorant to be a vegetarian. However the are some (emphasis on SOME) vegetarians out there who are ignorant, and use their vegetarianism as a vehicle to express their ignorance--I'm sure you know the type.

It would be grossly unfair to judge all vegetarians that way, especially if you don't know why they are vegetarian ( I have a sister who is a vegan for animal rights reasons, and a close friend who is a vegetarian because he has prostate cancer--neither eat meat, but for totally different reasons).

But it's a sad fact of life that if you've ever been cornered by an ignorant vegetarian who gives you a condescending, holier than thou lecture (or worse accuses you of murder) for eating meat then you are unlikely to be well-disposed toward vegetarians in general. Militant groups like PETA or ALF do not help matters either.

Some buy into that commercialized culture that says if you don't eat meat you can't have a healthy diet. There is nothing wrong with being a vegetarian; there re many ways to balance out protein in a diet without meat.

Some vegetarians choose that lifestyle to avoid being cruel to animals.

But what they might not realize is how ALL animals die in the wild - that is, they are ALL eaten alive. No wild animal has an easy death, like heart-failure due to old age. Nope, once they are weak, they get eaten by some predator. For that reason, one might consider eating meat to be not especially cruel.

Meat is food. Period.

There are things the body needs that come from meat which are not present in veggies.

Two quick examples are calcium and fat. In young children, fat aids in the development of the brain. Calcium helps bones develop. While there are substitutes for calcium, they do not work as well in the body as natural sources. A child who eats no meat, or doesn't drink milk will not develop proportionally to those who do.

As people grow into adulthood, fat continues to fuel the body and brain, just as calcium continues to help produce and strengthen bone.

So a vegetarian is literally starving their bodies of nutrients that benefit them. In the case of fat, it is robbing the brain of a vital food in the development of the brain. This makes them, literally, more stupid than meat eaters.

Whoever said it's wrong to be vegetarian is stupid and mean and ignorant. And whoever posted here saying that vegetarians only eat vegetables is misinformed. Vegetarianism is choosing not to eat meat, not to eat only veggies. Jeez.

Some people are ignorant. I eat meat, but I can definitely respect someone who only eat vegetables....People who eat veggies are cool with me as long as they don't diss me for eating meat. I don't see nothing wrong with it for others. Just not my choice. Much respect to the veggie lovers out there.

Nothing wrong with it I'm a vegetarian i think its great animals don't deserve to die just because we rule the world they are as important as we are they are living creatures like us i notice that when an animal kills a person or hurts him they kill the animal but when people kill animals no one cares. My favorite are sharks and its the saddest story because they survived what killed dinosaurs they survived everything in this world and they are dieing because of human influence they survived everything in history and we are the only thing that kills them. Its not fair for animals to die because we are hungry thats like too abusive. How would people like it if we coocked other humans they wouldnt like it so why kill animals.

Because vegitarians are hipacrits do you honestly think plants say hey i want to be picked out of my nice rich soil and eaten.. or yes please take my body parts (fruit) and eat me.

Just like you dont eat animals because they are living creatures.. plants are the same thing.

Plus the food chain is a good example if there was a animal above us we would probibly be the ones mass born for food.

I've heard the argument made that because god put animals on earth to be consumed by humans, we are in fact elevating animals toward god by eating them in a respectful manner.

I've also come to believe that it's because people assume that vegitarians are about to turn into preachy protesters and are making a preemptive strike by being on the offensive.

I also believe that at times it is because of people distancing themselves from being confronted with a potential hypocracy in their beliefs. They want to feel comfortable in their actions, and push away beliefs that might threaten their own.

All unfortunate.
