He was King James the VI & I (of Scotland and England, respectively), the one that took over from Queen Elizabeth I, in the late 16th/early 17th Century.
He commissioned a revised Bible to be compiled, as Supreme Head of the Church of England, because (as well as uniting the two Crowns) he wanted to unify the Church of England with the Church of Scotland. He wasn't a character in The Bible.
Like all Monarchs, his first duty was to produce an heir to the throne (who became Charles I - the one who got his head lopped off).
It is certainly documented that he enjoyed homosexual encounters, throughout his life.
I hope this helps?

King James is not featured in the bible. He was a king of England, from around 1500, who translated the bible into the wonderfully hard to read "King James Version" (KJV) of the bible. The bible, of course, was written in hebrew, greek, and Aramaic, and the last book had been completed some 1100 years before King James was even born.
Nothing in the bible says anything about King James. if you want to know about him, you have to check the English history books. Admittedly, there have been some pretty queer english royalty, but James was certainly not the gayest king in English history.

King James was not gay, and he isn't mentioned in the bible, The King James version was commissioned and paid for by king James I of England in the 17th century. That's why the writing is a bit old fashioned.

King James was the king of England who commissioned the 1611 standard version of the Bible to be translated. It came to be called the King James Version of the Bible though he had nothing to do with it's translation. His name is not in the Bible and I don't think he was gay thats more of a history question then a Biblical one.
By the way as for your name I don't hate you and you would have earn my respect.

No he was NOT. This is something put about by modernists who only like the modern versions of the bible which are corrupted by the RC church.
King James authorized the Bible to be translated into English and it had to be accurate. it comes from the Antiocan Text, which is the most reliable text. ALL other modern bibles come from the vaticanus text, which as you can see from the name has already been corrupted by the Vatican. yes they are the ones who have taken the 2nd commandment out of their teaching and made the 10 commandment into 2 so they still have 10. This proves that they are still corrupt and have been changing the scriptures for years to suit their teachings.
King James was an Honorable Christian gentleman.

that's called a rumor and it's probably not true. and trust me, it is definitely NOT in the Bible. since King James lived about 1500 years after the Bible was written, his name does not come up.
I've heard Shakespeare was gay. I've heard J Edgar Hoover was gay. you really can't believe everything you hear.
to respond to some of the other answers on here, I have to jump in and say that King James himself did not translate the Bible. he had a whole team of scholars and historians who did that for him.

King James is not a character in the Bible. He is the character who commisioned the Bible (the original English version).

It doesn't really matter. That's between him and God. He didn't WRITE the Bible, he authorized the Bible to be translated into English by 70 scholars who diligently researched all the ancient manuscripts from the original languages. It's ironic that the very Bible that King Jimmy authorized to be translated, states that a man sleeping with a man, and a woman sleeping with a woman (they didn't have the name "homosexual" back then, but the description is appropriate), that they will be condemned as cursed from God. (This is New Testament as well as Old Testament teaching, so it must be pretty important stuff to be repeated like this.) God will judge ALL homosexuals. And God will judge all heterosexuals for THEIR sins of lust, fornication, adultery, etc. God is no respecter of persons. He is just as willing to forgive one person's sins, as He is willing to forgive another's. And His first preference is forgiveness, but judgment is for those who reject His offer to forgive.

I dont believe he was... it wouldnt make sense for him to keep this in the Bible if he indeed was. However he wasn't a good guy, thats how come people left England to come to America.

No, he wasn't gay, but he didn't translate greek that well. eg. There's a bunch of mistakes in the English Bible for that reason.
