We suffered 10 deaths in the family over a two year period. The first 5 were within a six month period. My father was the first. He was a very strong man with strong ethics, patriotism, and a powerful personality. He didn't know his own worth, yet affected everyone he met. He held our family together, it seems. After all the losses, our family has fallen apart. We also have two boys in Iraq, my son and my nephew. My family has fought to the point of alienation. None of my sisters are speaking. Sometimes it feels like the family’s gone a little crazy. We don't even seem to know each other anymore. What, when it has gone so far, can be done to repair a broken family? Has anyone gone through something similar and resolved it? It hurts to see so much anger and pain.

My own family fell apart in a similar way. One don't say or do anything provocative and try to discourage others from it too.

"If you can't say somthing nice then don't say anything at all"

Next on the list is don't be surprised if it says broken for many years. Time heals all and all that crap right - just don't add to it thats all and try not to worry it to death.

As for me I have decided to stay away from my family or whats left of it . It's just easier for me.

Plan a family reunion when the boys come back from overseas...talk to your family. Tell them you miss them. My family has had quite similar problems, actually. Manicdepression, depression and chemical imbalances run in my family as well as alcoholism and my aunt, cousin and grandma are bipolar. Sometimes, after you've tried the hardest you have to leave it up to them to maybe go get some help.

Never give up, take each day as it comes. I'm sorry for your extensive loss. I buried both of my grandfathers on the same day it was hard. Thankfully life goes on and tomorrow is a brand new day. Ensure you tell those that you love that you do love them because you never know when your number is up. Peace be with you.

Make the first step. Write them or send postcards. Plan a family reunion. If these wont effect, travel and visit them yourself. Dont forget to have their residential addresses first. Good Luck!

Find yourself a good counselor.
Start by yourself, and then hopefully your counselor will guide you and over time add various family members, to help bring you all together again.

You don't have anything to lose by trying it.

Good luck.

My prayers are with you . I'm sure your father would want you and your family to be strong and take up where he left off . With time it will hurt less .
