I was given beer in my baby bottle, I drank a couple sips of beer every night when i was 4 and 5 years old, i had my first black out when i was 8 years old and snuck drinks whenever i got the chance. I have been through numerous treatments, AA, NA, counceling. I have totaled 4 cars almost killing myself and others, been to jail a bit...I hate drinking. I think I have brain damage and would do anything to stop. I just seem to get in a zombie state and don't think, then i take a drink. I hate it. Has anyone had a simular experience? should i just shoot myself. They will give me my drivers license back in one year and I have already decided not to get it. But I just broke my leg from being drunk so i am still a danger to myself and others.....I need a dramatic idea to shock me into staying sober.............

Have you been to any long term rehab centers? There are 6 month programs where you live in. That may be the only option you have left.

The only thing I could suggest is to find something new and difficult or time consuming to focus on. Possibly a more physically demanding job like construction. It got my cousin out of his nightly (and daily) routine.
It is a matter of focus and who you are hanging arround. When I am with certain friends (most of my friends) I feel like drinking. It is like we just have to and before we know it.....
I have recently started going to barnes and nobel at night instead of the bar and am trying something new for myself; and it is working to keep my mind off of alcohol.
It is just focussing on something new and challenging yourself. But make a clear limit for the weekends as well and mabey concider making a more drastic change by moving away for a while to get a grip on things.
This is a very powerful thing to overcome. Don't fool yourself into thinking you will be able to just do something drastic and it will stay that way. You can and most likely will revert back without professional help even with a very strong mind. You sound intelligent and my kid brother is just like you. Black outs- all the classes- 2 dui's- being revived by paramedics-- He is very smart and extremely inteligent, but the alcohol seems to rule his actions.
A lot of it is in your blood and your DNA and that is why the drastic changes are what you are after bc you realize that it has a huge control on you.
Change your job
Change your routine!!!!!
Change your goals and focus
Change your friends (at least for a while)
Start going out and doing some activity phisically each day (yoga is actually very helpful- moreso than the gym)
My brother only stopped when he was in jail for a while after having a solo rollover accident on a straight road after his second dui.
You have to take it out of your house and not be arround it if you want this to work. There are even homes for this where you live thier voluntarily to help you live in a drug free environment and get used to it. Then you can start understanding the grip it has on your life.
Mostly remember that your family and friends realy care about you and love you. There is a way through this and change is possible. Life without alcohol is common for lots of people who have had to make this choice.
The most successful friend I know used to have a pretty severe problem with drinking and doesn't drink at all now. I have known him for 5 years and he has never even had a sip of wine at dinner with everybody for thanksgiving. I have always been impressed with this and never knew him before he stopped. He is who I look to for advice and I look up to him. I cannot imagine the guy even having a beer because it is not who I know.
Rob reinvented himself and changed his life. He is my best friend and the smartest person I know.
You will make new friends that don't drink or not too much when you get sober.
It is drastic and it might be what you need.
I wish you the streangth you need
Good luck to you and God bless you

If your story is accurate, I'd say you have a physiological addiction to alchohol. Wow, your parents gave you geer as a kid. I'm sorry to hear that. However, anything can be overcome with strong enough will power, no matter how tough. This seems like a big hill to climb and maybe a good way to go about getting over this addiction is to gradually drink less and less beer. But trust me, like any addiction, it's practically impossible to do this by yourself. Get a buddy to help you out with this, because it's going to be tough- but if you're really serious about changing this you can do it. Maybe the best motivation is to think about how the consequences could have been worse, and that you realize change is necessary, but you just need to be mentally tough to overcome your physical addiction. Be strong.

Good luck to you

Have you admitted to yourself that you are an alcoholic? That's the first step. There is also a prescription drug called "Antebuse" that works really well. It helps you not only physically but mentally also. My husband has been totally sober for 6 1/2 years by using the antebuse

have you tried just sitting down and sincerely asking God to help you? did you get a sponsor when you went to AA? did you actually work the 12 steps? i've been sober almost 20 years now but i remember going what you're going through as if it were last week. hows this for a shocker......you're not going to die but you're going to live a long life as a drunk and this crap will never stop! that's what helped sober me up.
