i've always heard that you shouldn't eat late because your body doesn't have the time to digest the food properly, therefore staying in your body longer

This depends on your personal fitness goals. If fat loss is the goal I suggest no carbs after about 9pm, but I do suggest a small portion of lean meat (turkey, etc.) or a slow acting casein shake right before bed. The reason that I give this advice is because this gives your muscles the needed protein to maintain muscle density.

Of course if you are looking to gain muscle then eating prior to bed is very beneficial to your goals.

I hope this has shed a little light on the matter.

It all depends. To give you an example, some bodybuilders and those interested in gaining muscle mass get up during a night to eat. If your body needs 2000 calories to maintain your body weight, but you only gave it 1700 calories during the day and you eat 300 calories in the evening in majority of the cases you are not going to gain extra weight. If you exercise in the evening you have to eat later to help your body recover.

Yes, I think we should not eat food late at night, because, there are certain digestive enzymes in our body which performs their digestive functions only at specific periods which are generally near 8 to 9 during night. So, eating late might cause some digestive disorders.

Your metabolism is down at night while you sleep, so if you eat late at night, it has a higher chance of becoming fat deposites. If you do eat, make it a healthy snack such as fruit or veggies, and try not to eat within an hour of going to sleep.

Very; since you're not physically active after going to bed, none of that food gets burned off and it turns into fat. You can keep alot of weight off by just timing your meals around being active.

It's a good ideal, because if you eat then go to sleep, your body gets no exercise to process the fat, calories, carbs, etc. So hence, it just lays on your thighs!
