Witchy is absolutely right--chocolate chip cookies right out of the oven with a glass of cold milk. You said you're fit, not overweight. If the depression is an occasional thing (like a PMS symptom or you're experiencing a personal problem like grieving a loved one or a break-up), chances are you'll work off the extra calories in a short time--if you eat them in moderation!

It takes time and energy to make homemade cookies. To cut down the sugar content for fewer calories, use Splenda Brand for Baking and the Splenda Brown Sugar in place of the standard sugars. You can't taste the difference. Add a mixture of pecans & walnuts or hazelnuts for a different texture that you can enjoy chewing and will add a distinctive flavor.

I suffer depression & a trick I learned is to make up a batch of the dough, but only bake 2 to 4 (depending on size) that I'll eat at that one sitting. It'll take longer to eat too, if you break the cookies apart and eat them while the chocolate is still warm & gooey. It's kind of messy, but it's like being a kid again. Refrigerate the unused dough for another time. It's such a hassle to preheat the oven, get the baking pan out, etc. that you'll find you'll put off baking other batches on a whim.

Use your favorite dishes. Set the table with a nice placemat where you can enjoy your snack. Maybe eat outside if the weather is nice & enjoy nature. You may even like to do it if it's raining. Just don't read or watch tv at the same time. You'll be so intent on the content that you won't even realize you've eaten the cookies and you'll not only feel depressed, but deprived.

Invite a friend over or maybe a neighbor you don't know very well to share with you. If you have to make them all up at one time, put some in a tin or something and give them to your mail carrier or the UPS guy. Tell them you appreciate their work and they can help you save pounds by eating up the cookies. Service will improve, believe me!

Ignore the rude comment of the one response--you said you weren't fat, you don't need to apologize for your craving. Calling you names is only going to depress you more. Some people think they're being clever when they don't have a clue about depression. BUT, if the depression continues, see your doctor. You don't want to let an occasional bout become entrenched in your life that you'll need medication. Going to work out afterwards if even for only a few minutes, will make you feel good.

Homemade chocolate chip, fresh from the oven with a tall glass of cold milk. Plus the activity of actually baking the cookies may give you a small sense of accomplishment and make you feel better too. The smell is absolutely wonderful---again, helping you to feel a bit better. And you could give away the extras to someone else and maybe feel good for making someone else happy.

cake mix cookies... i think they taste best no matter what is going on. I could be in the middle of world war three and i would still stop for a cake mix cookie! it's simple:

mix 1 cake mix (I like Yellow or dark chocolate) with 1/3 cup of oil, 1 egg, 3 tablespoons of water and 3/4 of a bag of choc. chips. you can add nuts too or what ever you like, m&ms etc... just spoon on the sheet and bake for like 10-15 mins on 350°

They come out plump and delicious, ENJOY! and have a batch for me while your at it!

Snickerdoodles - soft ones. After you have a few of those, get a bowl of vanilla ice cream with chocolate on top. Or even better, go to Cold Stone Creamery and get a large white chocolate ice cream with brownies mixed in. Yum!

Hope you feel better!

I didn't think you had to be depressed to eat cookies, but if you had to choose...pick pecan sandies, at least then you can be even more depressed because now you have to go to the store for milk to have with them.

Cookies don't help me feel better, but I like to eat them. Fatty, sugary ones are best.
If you're depressed, go do something active. It'll help. Eating makes you sluggish and want to mope more.

You shouldn't eat cookies at all..

I would recommend going to the gym.. you will feel better about yourself, and your brain will release endorphins causing you to feel better physically and emotionally..

Why get fat when you are already depressed?
