The Federal Regs say a CDL holder cannot operate a vehicle if their Blood Alcohol Concentration is more than 0.04, half of the legal limit in most states for car drivers.

Also, that 0.04 applies regardless of the vehicle you are in. So if you are driving your personal vehicle after hours you may not exceed 0.04 or you are DUI.

4 hours are the minimum amount of time between a drink and work. Unless you are covered by a Union contract your boss can enforce the NO ALCOHOL rule.

If your boss says you can't drink, and you want to keep the job... Don't Drink! It's that simple.

US DOT rules are ANY Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) showing in a breathalyzer or blood test will require you to park your truck and wait for 24 hours before driving again. A BAC of .04 or higher (Half the legal limit for auto drivers in most states) can cost you your CDL for six months, and if you get a second conviction, you'll loose your CDL for life!

Are a couple of beers worth the possibility of losing your job for life?

Just remember the "4 hours bottle to throttle" rule. You can't consume ANY alcohol during the 4 hours prior to operating any commercial vehicle.

And as in the other post, .04% BAC is the limit for CDL holders in all 50 states.

If your boss says you can not drink at all and it is in writing then don't do it. He must have something in writing as an SOP (Standard Operating Procedure). Other wise stop drinking about 10 hours prior to driving.

If you are stopped with between a .001 to .004 alcohol content you will be immediatley put out of service for 24 hours. This will cost your boss money and could possibly even increase his insurance costs.

.04 is the legal limit for CDL holders even in your off time. If your going to drink make sure you dont get behind the wheel of any thing for 24 hours.
