how would you respond to the question often asked of grandparents,"what makes you think that you will be a better parent and not make the same mistakes the second time around?"

I have learned about how to care for a child and give them the love that most children never get from their parents. I will give them daily time and encourage them not call them names or discourage them. I will give them discipline when it is needed, but only to the extent that it helps them grow up to become a good citizen.

I will make mistakes all parents do, but I will hope that the grandparents will be there to help minimize the number of mistakes and help the children grow into happy, productive, and loving adults.

Guess what - grandparents think they would be better parents the second time around because by the time their children are grown they have forgotten what it takes to properly raise a child. It's easy to look down on someone and say you could do it better when you don't have to do it.

I have never been asked this particular question. But, I will say that I have read at least half a dozen books and parenting, half of those being text books. I really am well prepared as far as being informed goes, and I continue to read periodicals (yes parenting magazines ARE periodicals). So, maybe that makes me better as I get older, because I've read more, and mellowed some.

But, don't forget, you can ask them, "What are you trying to say?" Then you can address they're "actual" concerns directly.

wow, there are alot of conflict sometimes between parents and grandparents on how to raise their children. Tell, you parents that you are the parents of your child and you are doing what you think is best. Even if it is a different way that your parents would do it, it is life, and we are here to learn. Even learn parenting.
