Yes we do.....

We are so fortunate to have them.

Do you ever stop and think what it would be like to have been born in a third world country? I had no choice where I was born. It was only by God's grace I was born here, by no making of my own. What makes me deserve this birthright? Nothing, I am no better then anyone else in the world....

Therefore, I am grateful that by some miracle I was born here. I have visited third world countries and I really feel for those people. Those born in third worlds didn't have a choice either. So yes, many Americans take there freedoms for granted.

Americans do tend to take the freedoms guaranteed them by the Constitution for granted and will oftentimes blindly support their government in limiting those freedoms. Yet, freedom is hardly the only thing Americans take for granted.

Most Americans take access to clean water and food for granted. They take continuous electricity, refrigeration, and heated water for bathing for granted. Americans take easy access to good education and employment for granted. Americans take for granted that they can safely walk across a field or park without fear of landmines. Americans take for granted the lack of strife in their country. These are all things that most people around the world do not have the luxury to take for granted.

Most Americans take for granted the sheer prosperity of their country compared to the rest of the world. The relative wealth of Americans as compared to so many other peoples of the world insulates them from the harsh reality of what life on this planet is really like and it isolates them from others. It is hard for most Americans to understand where most people in other countries "are coming from." Likewise, many people around the world have a hard time comprehending how Americans can be so blind to the extreme suffering that is daily life on most of this planet.

Some Americans send others to Iraq to fight and die, they always ask others to do their dirty work. Those that know war and have been in war know that war is hell and war is about killing.
Those that have never served like Bu$h, Cheney and Rice have no clue about war, they never will get it.
Many voted for Bu$h because Bu$h gave tax cuts to the wealthy, they could care less about all the harm Bu$h and his cronies like Rice have done America, they would vote for him again if they could. As to your question, no I do not take Freedom for granted. I know what those who served put on the line to preserve our way of life in America. I also know that those who have never served will never get it. A terrorist will not face our service men in Iraq, they do the dirty work behind our backs, just like in Nam.
BTW, have you ever known a time in America's history when your home can be entered without a search warrant, you can be arrested without a charge, you can be taken to another country, without contact with a Lawyer? By your own Government?

Yes, you americans do ignore freedom. That's almost the same as taking it for granted, is it not.
All those prisoners at guantanamo bay.. Why are they there?
Your freedom to carry guns which makes you so free that most people in the usa die of gunshot but then you get upset when someone kills one of your soldiers with a gun when the soldier is occupying their country.

I never have but yeah, I think since Americans have lived a relativly safe life as far as our country goes, up until 9/11 when it was realized we aren't completely untouchable many Americans did. But like the other person said, when you grow up a certain way, and it's all you know, you tend not to think about it.
