Yes, and to cool down 64 ounce bottled of soft drinks instead of getting ripped off by the coke machines! And to make lemonade and ice water.
It's a nice way to have the food and snacks you want because you can chill the drinks ice cold. You can also dunk fruit and perishables in ice and they'll stay fresh for hours.

Yes, you are right. That is what they are used for. Or to keep the beer cold in the bathtub. My family used to travel a lot, and those machines came in handy to fill the arctic jug of water we always carried in the car. Some people carried coolers, and filled them, ignoring the big sign on the ice machine that said" Do not fill coolers." No plastic bottles of water in the old days.

I always traveled with and ice chest and the hotel's ice comes in handy when refilling it with fresh ice in the morning. Have to keep the beer cold.
