1 Timothy 2:9 & 10

9 likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, 10 but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.

I figure that 1) Women should be modest, not slutty, 2) working hard and making a diffrence in the world is more important than looks, 3) money/effort/thoughts should not be spent on apperances as much as on others. That said, i don't think that Paul was suggesting that women run around with unbound hair (an early sign of a harlet), or neglect to care for their bodies. I just think that, to put it in a modern day context, you don't need another pair shoes/a new purse/new whatever if you already have one that works. Instead, you should put the money/time/effort/thoughts to good use: serving others.

i think it definitely means, DON'T WEAR JEWELRY OR BRAID YOUR HAIR.

and don't stop there:

timothy 2:11 ...... "Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection." --- that means no talking, ladies.

1Ti 2:12 ...... "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." --- that's means "never argue with a man".

1Ti 2:13 ...... "For Adam was first formed, then Eve." --- and don't forget it.

but my absolute favourite stuff is the stuff from leviticus:

Lev 15:19"And if a woman have an issue, [and] her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even."

Lev 15:20"And every thing that she lieth upon in her separation shall be unclean: every thing also that she sitteth upon shall be unclean."

remember this the next time you're menstruating. i hope you never touch anyone during these "lady's days", because even a simple hug can ceremonially defile a loved one until evening. and you know what THAT means.

so,, if you really wanna be a good christian, then you'd better learn your place as a woman.

i know some churches that follow that to a "T", but my hair is short, and all the while, i dont believe it affects how i feel about god... idk, maybe i'm being hypocritical, and i hope i'm not, but i attend a church that really doesnt care if you shave ur head or wear jeans and ur fave ol' worn out tee shirt... and, it's pentecoastal.... i believe that god will love you no matter what ur hair or clothes look like, but, yes, i'm sure how u dress and present yourself makes a big difference to not only him, but those around as well... i dont always wear dresses, and my hair has even been spiked before, and the oldest ladies in the church will smile and tell me how happy they are to see me.... then again, i've had this dc talk shirt that stated on the front "freak" and on the back "jesus freak" and i had a lady from the church comment on the "troubled youth" of today... so, it may be important for the fact that ppl will judge u no matter what, but, i dont go around with body parts hanging outta clothes, so......

Those women who have publicly committed themselves to pursuing godliness should support that claim not only in their demeanor, wardrobe, and appearance, but by being clothed with righteous behavior.

If you keep reading, it speaks about the secret person of the heart and the quiet and mild spirit-it means that qualities of personality are worth far more than outward appearances. Work on qualities that God finds worthy rather than dwelling on outward appearances.

I prefer to see women adorned in immodest apparel.

magic is right.
I think what he was getting at here was materialism. women who get their hair and nails done every weekend. who spend more on one piece of jewelry than what I earn in a month.
if we're going to call ourselves holy and Godly and righteous, we really ought to do more with our money than buy the latest skirt at Old Navy.

Well, when it comes to clothes, I agree about looking decent and keeping certain areas covered. But no jewelry? I must say, that sounds a bit overboard.

I think it means that the measure of a good woman isn't in her hair, nails, and clothing etc. Her meaning is measured in what she does with her life, and what she does for others in the world.

It means that people are spending to much time trying to figure out what the Bible says about whatever they want it to say about everything.
