This one is easy, put his food where he likes to defecate. No animal likes to s1it where they eat. But FIRST take a mixture of vinegar, water and baking soda and clean the carpet where he does this, it will help neutralize the odor.

Also, if this is a house or apartment and the carpet was already there before you moved in, he maybe trying to cover something he can smell from another animal. Cats have a nose 12 to 15 times more sensitive than humans and it may be in the padding under the carpet. You can also go to PetCo and ask for something to clean the carpet and see what they say. Good luck!

Since he's neutered I doubt its an aggressive stance.

Keep him in an easily cleaned room until he figures out where to go. A linoleum floor bathroom with work very well.

If he goes on the floor just simply put the little poo poo in the litter box. Then clean the soiled area with a mixture of 4 parts water and 1 part bleach. Put this in a marked spray bottle. The bleach will remove the cent from the floor.

Don't clean out the litter box completely until the cat is using it regularly. You must spend lots of time with him.

Take him out for visits on the couch etc. But as soon as your visit is over lock him back into the bathroom.

Never ever get upset with him it will only cause problems worse than the one you are dealing with.

If you follow this and be very patient with the little critter he will be using the box in no time

While you are training him clean very thoroughly the areas of the house he has soiled with a vinegar solution saturating through the carpet padding, then a product that neutralise's the pet odor.there are a few different brands available at most department stores or pet stores. This will remove the cent in other areas of the house that causes instinctual response in the cat. The instinct to poo in the place where the cent all ready is cannot be ignored

. If after you have success and let him roam the house and he has a mistake, then go back to your plan. It is good to leave a little of the old litter on top of the new until the cat gets into a groove and the litter box is a habit.

Cats want to do the right thing, it is up to us to be kind, patient and teach them on their level, without doing anything to loose their trust.

I don't have any idea of how to stop your male from eliminating on your carpet. But it is a true sign of anger.
Have you changed his litter brand lately?

Is it always in the same spot that he does it?

New food?

Suddenly your nephew comming over? Sometimes they don't like some people!

Age

Medical issue? This is important to get him out. Sometimes it can be corrected medicaly and you never see it again

Cats are amazing creatures, very simple things upset them. Start off with a totaly new box. With basic sand. Putting it in the same area. Wash the floor with heavy vinagar at least one day beforehand.

You didnt say how often this has happened and over what period of time

What I have done to remedy the smell issue is to get about 2 cups of coffee grouds (used) and put them on that dreaded spot for as many days as you can handle it. Vacum and then use a carpet cleaner. For some strange reason the used coffee grounds absorb the smell.

After cleaning it up put vinegar on the same spot. When he returns there the unpleasant vinegar he sniffs will discourage him from using the carpet again. Keep trying until success. If vinegar doesn't do the trick try another unpleasant fluid like cat away. Maybe your local pet store can suggest a good similar product.

I kind of agree with wrath....Putting vinegar or something similar ((I've used red pepper before for my dogs peeing in the house and it worked)) in the area(s) he's using and that will help. Also putting part of the crap in his litterbox will remind him that that is his spot, not the carpet...And praising him when he goes in the box should help...But I am a "dog" person, not a cat person, but hey, both are companions and I'm sure these ideas should at least help..good luck, Marty

It's often a sign of aggression. He's trying to make a statement about something he is unhappy with. It's not fun, but when my cat has done it on occasion, I put her face up close to it and yell bad cat! That usually gets the message across. It's even better if you can catch him in the process so he understands what he is doing that moment is bad. See if he's getting enough attention, too.

the next time your cat poops on your carpet, get some of the poop in a few paper towels (or something similar ) and put it in the litter box. then get something to deodorize your carpet. cats tend to go in certain places because they're marking a place, mad at you, or they don't smell evidece of themselves in the litter box. (at lest mine behaved that way....)

You mean he's *shitting on the carpet?* haha. Maybe he needs more attention. Cats are moody, they really are. Maybe he is acting on his feelings. Have you asked a vet about this? I would if I were you.
