If you are thinking about it, I would definitely not recommend it. It depends on how much you drink. If you are drinking 2 cans or more a day it is not a good idea to go cold turkey unless you are drinking some other caffeine source such as coffee. You will go through withdrawl. This can cause headaches, grumpiness, depression, and general malase. Also weaning yourself off of soda doesn't mean that you were any less effective than doing it straight away. In general the body kind of hates when you do anything cold turkey.

Yes, I was drinking the sugared, caffeine kind then. I was very nervous, and nothing quenched my thirst for awhile.Did not get a headache. But it passed. Now I drink the decaf sugar free stuff, I get the real thing as a treat every few months

Cold turkey? Perish the thought!! Doing so, painful as it sounds, could be very beneficial to one's health and diet. Now, cutting back to one or two 8 oz. glasses a day: that's tolerable, beneficial to your health and diet. And you can look into drinking calorie free flavored water drinks in between.

I did. It was a great decision. I am a vegetarian also.
One day I decided I don't want anymore poison or bad in my life and sodas were an easy thing to get rid of.

I did once, and it was like quiting smoking. I actually had withdrawal like symptoms, but I beat it. I prayed to God and eventually I was drink free. I did the same with drugs years before.
