There is no reason to bath a cat, especially an inside cat, unless there is a special circumstance, something was spilled on it etc. In fact, if you bath a cat too often it will dry out the natural oils in its skin. They are built to be "Self-cleaning" :)

This depends on whether it's an indoor or outdoor cat. And it also depends on whether you've bathed it before. If you raise it, giving it bathes, of course you should be able to give it more. I have an indoor cat, and I usually bathe it every month during the summer (or less) and maybe once throughout the rest of the year. I'd think if it was an outdoor cat, it would make sense to give it a bath throughout the whole year every like 3-4 months. Or more, once again I'm not too sure. My aunt had 2 cats and she gave them a bath every month or so but they would still come back home filthy.
Just make sure you don't randomly shower your cat with bathes, do it slowly and gradually if you're going to bathe them.

There is never a real need to give a cat a bath unless they have gotten into something dangerous or something that you are unable to stand, but be warned it can be dangerous, when i had to because my cat got into some dead fish, she tried jumping out, catch my arm, blood ran all the way down to my hand, it can be painful, but it had to be done

Well they have the natural sence to bathe themselves. But to keep my cats shedding to a minimal and keep her smelling good and feeling soft, i usually give my cat a bathe every 6 weeks or so..... With it being to hot lately, this has helped to cool her down...

Cats don't really need to be bathed because it breaks down the oils on their skin that protect them from disease. They need to be brushed regularly because when they lick their fur loose fibers go into their stomachs causing hair balls which can harm them and also give them a hard time when they cough them up. There are products that make it easier for them to cough up their hair balls like flavored gel products in a tube.

Cats generally groom themselves.
I wouldn't try to bathe one, to much risk of blood loss in scratches.

They bathe themselves. Only given them a hand if they are really dirty, and then i'd only wipe them over with a damp towel.

Only if they get something on them they can't get off themselves(oil or grease),or older cats sometimes have trouble keeping themselves clean. I would recommend waterless shampoo in that instance.
