Spiders can lay hundreds of eggs. But it depends on the type of spider. As for effective ways to kill them without harming your pets, well I'm sure you know you can just step on them. Really crushing them is the only truely safe way. Some chemical pesticdes (like Raid) can kill them, and if used properly can be safe to use in homes with pets (although I wouldn't let the pets in the area of the spray for sometime) but it's important to read those directions on the bottle.

Now before you run out and start killing all the spiders you see, keep this in mind. Spiders are killers themselves. By that I mean they are hunters, so the small spiders you find in your house are there because they are eating the Mosquitos, Flys, Gnats and other pests that are avalible to them. So if you get rid of all your spiders you will start to see more of these other pests. My advice is let nature do it's thing. Keeping your house clean will reduce the number of flies and other insects which will limith the spiders food source, which will lower the number of spiders in your home.

Hope that helps.

i think you can stop killing them. it may be no use. you only killed 3? great! only another hundred or so to go... or you can call an exterminator, but that maybe hazardous to your pets i think.
