why do people post personal ads? do they know the dangers of what kind of person would answer? or does the person who replies ever think they will be screwed over in some way? i see on tv all the time that people answer and post personal ads and get killed... it seems so risky. are they just very desperate and lonely?

for those who use personal ads, or have used them (or internet sites) what is it like to tell your parents thats how you met or will meet someone? is it hard to know you can trust this person or do you go right into it? It seems so bizarre to me. i am watching the news right now, and someone was killed by one who answered their personal ad... it just brings so many questions to my mind...

The risks are no different than the ones you face by meeting someone at a bar, gas pump, or anywhere else. The internet just gets more press because it is relatively new (People have been meeting in bars for hundreds of years, the internet is only a little over 20 years old).

Sure some will lie. Is it any different at a bar, or anywhere else? The personal ad will let you say right up front ‘I want someone that is like xxxx’. Where else can you do that?

I wanted to add, that I know a lot of poeple that met thier significant other on the internet. They are not lame, desperate, or anything. They are just people that work 60 hours a week!

For people like me that don't have a whole lot of free time, it's a quick and easy way to see what's out there without actually having to "go out there". I'm not much into clubbing, there are no females where I work at (tech support department go figure) and all of my friends are married or in very serious relationships. Where does that leave me to go? Personal ads. Not exactly how I would like for it to turn out, but it's the only thing that works for now.

Look on here at all the people doing the same thing. Well, I suppose there's a risk at anything worthwhile.
