I'm going to assume that by "smart" you mean "intelligent" for the purpose of my answer.

First of all, nearly everyone's heard of an I.Q. test. But, not too many people know how the actual number is derived. I.Q. stands for Intelligence Quotient, and a quotient is found through a process of division. So, educational psychologists take your Intelligence level (in terms of how "old" you are mentally) and divide it by your chronological age (how old you really are in years and months.) Then, the quotient is multiplied by 100 (to avoid fractional results). That's why the hypothetical "average" intelligence is 100.

Say that a ten-year-old girl scores 10 on an intelligence test. In this case, 10 divided by 10 is 1. And 1 multiplied by 100 is 100. So the ten-year-old girl has an average I.Q. of 100.

But, if she had scored 15 on the intelligence test, then the quotient would be 1.5. And 1.5 times 100 is 150, and she's a genius.

Using only that basis, I'm more intelligent that most people. But...

I.Q. tests are highly biased. For example, how did we determine the girl's "intellectual age?" We had her answer a bunch of questions. Here's a typical example:

Boat is to regallia as airplane is to __________.
a. sky
b. squadron
c. flying
d. hangar

Seems pretty simple. Right? But, what are the chances that an inner-city youth knows what a regallia is? How about a kid in Iowa, a thousand miles from an ocean?

For that fact, an inner city youth may not know what a squadron or a hangar is. So the chances of getting the question right is one in four, or 25 percent.

On the other hand, I grew up in one of the largest cities in the world. And, I had never been to a farm. So, how would I respond to the following:

True or False: All chickens lay eggs.

I might have heard that eggs came from chickens. And, I might infer that one chicken is like another. Therefore, all chickens lay eggs.

However, a farm boy would laugh at my answer because he knows that some chickens are rosters.

It's only because I studied the right subjects in school that I can correctly answer more questions than most people. And, that has to do with learning and experience, not intelligence.

Well everyone has a specialty they are an expert at and I couldnt hold a candle to someone in their field of knowledge. As for figuring out how to be the best at what I know, well I would say it's all about desire. If you want to be superior and that is your focus you can become the best. You can win $22,000 at jeopardy after going to school for 16 years, but there have been people who have made a fortune with a high school education. I know someone who brags about how smart she is all the time and cant pay her bills, and I know people who wouldn't impress you at all if you met them on the street and they could buy or sell us. So I guess I would ask-who cares how smart someone is?

Depends on what you're talking about. There are certain instances where I am pretty smart or resourceful. I think I am in the top 25% of the general population, although, I don't know if I'm being modest or arrogant. But when it comes to the intangible, such as people's feelings, I am one of those people that my friends and family always turn to. I have a knack for problem solving.

More intelligent than average on paper (IQ). But since I do not seek to prove myself , I probably don't come across that way. And that's okay with me.
