They approach the non-Christian as if it is just understood that the Christian is right and the non-Christian is wrong. This unnerves me to no end.

How about insecurity about their own beliefs and turth of the.

They try to get some satisfaction in number.

In 1984, the then Episcopal Bishop of Newark (NJ), John Shelby Spong visited India and wrote the following:

“what I learned about Hinduism enhanced my appreciation for this ancient religious tradition. I saw a beauty in it that was enviable, and I found many points where Christians and Hindus are seeking to deal with the same human needs in remarkably similar ways”.

He admired the absence of the “spirit of missionary imperialism” in Hinduism

and

questioned whether or not the “Christian claims to possess infallibility or ultimate truth are not signs of a brittle pettiness that cannot endure”.

I'm sorry if you have been approached out of pride instead of love. Is there an inkling that their hearts were in the right place wanting to share with you?
To answer your question, they probably do that because they are coming from a stance of 'Absolute Truth'. When that happens, they have THE Truth and therefore anything opposing is not truth - or - false. Make sense? Christians can be bull-headed like that - believing the Bible is the actual Word of God and the Authority and the Absolute Truth and all... but then, they have a really good point and it is a solid one. I haven't seen or heard of anything to be able to stand up to it or tear it down yet.

Usually it's true. For example, most wiccans are completely unaware of the fraudulent beginning of wicca nor of how most of the ritual was taken from satanism. They simply never bother to investigate the matter.

Instead, they arrogantly assume that christianity is trying to force them along a particular path, as you have done here. For God's sake, when was the last time a christian approached you to prostyltize? Never. As, in all the years I've been around christians, I have never once run into one that had even the slightest interest in being confrontational about religion in any way whatsoever. So what the hell is your beef?

Instead, it's the atheists (who push the religion of marxism) and every freak on the planet who wants to say something negative about christianity. Here's an idea? Why you stop being such a retard, pull your head out of your ***, and look into a few things about what you are doing. Because, most of it, is quite frankly, evil. But, you don't know it because you are too busy acting smug about how "alternative" you are to learn anything beyond the new age bullshit.

The reason we can know God's word is true is because He has proven it true through His amazing creations, prophetic wisdom, historical accuracy, amazing medical knowledge given to the Jews, the continuity of the Bible, the utter timelessness of the Bible... do I need to keep going.

More importantly, the reason we're in such a hurry to get the truth out is that we don't want anyone going to Hell. Some people are thinking that there are too many people going out and helping people find Christ, but the truth is just the opposite. Only about 2% of Christians are actually answering Christ's call to help save people. God bless those that do this most important duty!

Doesn't' everybody here have that attitude about how right they are about their beliefs.

For myself I know I went through a process years ago of checking out a whole bunch of other religions etc... and then tried to formulate my own belief. But none of it could change my life or give me relief and hope until I really met Jesus.

It was a powerful experience that has shaped my life for the last 30 years so I am real real sure it works.

I hope I don't come off as arrogant, though, I don't mean to.

Maybe you become unnerved because you might not be faithful in what you believe and are just defensive.

I would hope that no Christian would come up to anybody and start screaming crap, if that was the case; I probably would deck the person in Jesus name for being a hypocrite.... Just kidding.

Because obnoxiousness is not part of the dogma of other religions.

Look... religion is, above all, a business. The Christians just have a better marketing plan than others.

"Selling eternal life is an unbeatable business, with no customers ever asking for their money back after the goods are not delivered." ~ Victor J. Stenger

"Businesses may come and go, but religion will last forever, for in no other endeavor does the consumer blame himself for product failure."  ~ Harvard Lamphoon, "Doon" (paraphrase)

Because the bible tells them they must believe and if they do, they are right. Many scriptures tell believers that they will be ridiculed and persecuted by non-believers, so that just strengthens their point of view. Many denominations are told to spread the word mercilessly, regardless what the feedback is.

I don't hesitate to say that I am not a Christian and I don't subscribe to their scriptures. If they start to argue or preach, I put my hand up and ask that they refrain. If they continue, I walk away peacefully. If they follow, I start discussing MY point of view, which I KNOW they won't agree with. If they listen to me, I'll listen to them, but I try to avoid it at all costs.

Because proselytizing is a major part of the Christian religion and they generally feel as if it is their mission to teach you the truth of Christ.. for the most part, it's what their religion tells them they should do. The Christian religion is formed around the belief that it is the only true religion, so naturally, Christian's feel that it's their mission to "enlighten" non-Christians with the truth.

I don't think (and this is just my opinion) that they realize how aggrivating it would be to them if those of us of other faiths were constantly at them to believe as we do.

Rather than get all the Christian rhetoric from believers who think they know something - know this. All religions teach exclusivity, i.e. that their religion is the ONLY one that has truth. Islam in its multiple forms, Christianity of every available flavor - any religion you can name. They are all spiritual elitists who will tell you the error of your ways and also that they have the only surefire way to salvation.

Believe none of them. There are as many ways to commune with God as there are people in existence. Churches, synagogues and mosques are merely clubs for people who have been brainwashed to think alike because they fear thinking any other way (oooh the Devil's gonna getcha). Their snobbishness is an offshoot of their 'faith'. And yes, they can be very tiresome if you let them get next to you -- so my advice is to ignore them and pass along to the next project in your life.
