Mizzzthang's answer is not entirely correct, actually.

You can just be waking up from the loudness of your own snore and still be breathing normally. However, it is indeed most likely that you may not be breathing normally or adequately while you are sleeping, which is called Sleep Apnea. It is a very serious condition that needs to be treated if present. Failure to treat sleep apnea can cause or worsen high blood pressure, heart disease, etc and can cause daytime drowsiness, headaches, irritability and falling asleep during activities such as work and driving.

You should definately talk to your doctor about your snoring and make sure that it is not sleep apnea.

No, but my husbands does when he is really tired, and mostly on weekends when he is sleeping later. Thank goodness because I wouldn't be able to sleep.

My son also did,, but we went and got him checked out at the Ears , nose, and throat Dr. and we found that his adnoids were really blocked, and that they needed to come out along w/ his tonsils,, and after that?? he didn't snore at all.

My husband also went and had a small nasal surgery done, and he doesn't have to use nosespray or take allergy shots anymore!

Not when I'm deep in sleep (of course, deep sleep while snoring is an oxymoron, ref. sleep apnoea), but sometimes when I'm just falling asleep, I wake up with a start when I realise I'm snoring.

Yes, it's called sleep apnea....And the reason you are waking up is because you are not breathing......Go to a sleep lab, honey, they'll help.....

No, but my Dad does.... You could indeed have a serious health problem. I suggest you talk to your physician about it.
