Butter *IS* fat. Pure fat. So yes, it can add to your weight if you eat too much of it. But if you use it in moderation with other good foods and exercise, you shouldn't worry about it. It's not like you'll gain 5 pounds if you have some butter on your toast.

If your body needs 2000 calories to maintain your current weight, but you only eat 1500 calories including some butter you'll loose weight.
It doesn't mean that you can eat 2000 calories from butter alone and maintain your weight, but the point is that a butter on itself is not going to make you fat if it is a part of a balanced diet.

Butter, on its own, does not make you fat.

What makes you fat is a simple formula: the amount of food you take in during the day MINUS the amount of energy you expend during the day.

If you eat a lot of calories, and do little activity, you will get fat. You can eat a fat-free diet, and if you disobey the formula above, you will get fat. The amount of fat (butter) has little to do with it.

Butter can effect blood serum cholesterol.

But being fat is directly controlled by what you eat, via the formula above.

Butter does not make people fat - if you use a little you are fine, if you are going through a tub of butter a week then yes, that's a bit excessive. And based on your height and weight you are quite thin.

It's true butter is fat and it's a good idea to limit fats in your diet. But a little won't hurt. It is far healthier to eat butter than trans fat substitutes like margarine.

Not as long as you are using it in moderation. A little butter for breakfast is hardly enough to make you fat.

REAL butter is better for you than margarine or vegetable spreads, etc. By the way, you are not fat for your height. Just make healthy choices. The building blocks for disease are laid in your 20s and 30s

A little butter can't hurt you. It's better than margarine that is full of chemicals. It sounds like your friends are jealous and trying to cause you to feel bad about yourself. Your weight is just fine. Don't listen to those fools.
