New York City has two great universities -- Columbia and NYU. It also has some very good universities such as Fordham.

New Jersey has a couple of great universities -- but nothing in a big City. However, it is easy to get to either Philadelphia or New York by train from Princeton.

There are several geat universities in Boston, MA. Harvard and MIT are the obvious choices -- but Boston College is also a great university There are also several very good universities in the area like Boston University, Tufts, Brandeis, etc.

The best university in Pennsylvania is also the best university that is in any big city (if you consider Cambridge, MA a suburb of Boston). The University of Pennsylvania is located in Philadelphia. There are several other very good schools in the Philadelphia area -- including Swarthmore, Haverford and Villanova.

Look at the rankings at US News & World Report's web site to see what else fits.

New York has Columbia and Cornell. New Jersey has Princeton, Pennsylvania has UPenn, and Massachusetts has Harvard. There are other colleges and universities that are great in their own way, though not as well known. It depends on what you are looking for. In Massachusetts there is Northeastern University, for example, which offers business programs as well as pharmacy.
