I like "The HarperCollins Dictionary of Religion". It's extensive enough with over 1100 pages yet it won't break the bank. Also, you may want to try your local library for free to find one that you'll like before going out to buy it.

These are just a couple books that give you an in-depth view of certain aspects the religions of the world and a basic overview of the religion itself. If you need explicit details, you would need to find a book specific to that religion.

Yes a book called A Book About Hope & Faith and it talks how long the religion has been around, where is it from, and what was the reason behind it and also, how many members currently are involved with it.

Yes there is. It is called "Why So Many Gods?" by Kate Etue & Tim Baker. It spends a few pages on each major world philosophy/religion. It's very straight forward, easy to read, tells you what you need to know, and it's only like $14. It is a very good book. I found it at Wal-Mart, but you could probably get it even cheaper on Amazon.com

I've seen books like "A Pocket Guide to World Religions" that cover the basic beliefs, practices, worshipper locations, afterlife beliefs, etc... Maybe you want that?

yes there are a lot of books written on that subject. I've read a few of them. but really, what I have found, is books like that only gloss through the main points and really don't explain the human connection.
if you'd like to learn about more religions, your best bet is to research them online. every faith has its own website these days. instead of learning from a neutral outsider, hear it right from the horse's mouth. best way to learn.
