How about borrowing? As in their car? As in way too much? I had my dad's car so much when I was 17, he went out and bought a new one.

Well I hope you have your license, if so then your parents are probably just concerned for your safety. Most accidents are due to inexperienced drivers. Young drivers are not afraid to take more risks, and also have the "It won't happen to me" attitude. You can never trust anyone on the road. You may think that you are a good driver, and abide by the law, but others on the road can easily distract you, or even cause an accident. Therefore you must be a confident, conciencious, alert driver at all times. Your parents may not think you are ready for this. Be patient, as there are plenty of other ways to get around. Public transport will take you anywhere.

Be the first person on your block with a Segway...If that doesn't appeal to you, ask them if they'd accept a contract where you state that you will be home before 10, won't drag race, won't...well, you get the idea...If that doesn't work, put the money into a certificate of deposit (CD) and let it earn money for you so that when you're old enough you can get an even snazier car.

First how old are you, and how much longer do you have to wait for their permission to buy a car? I mean if you have amassed enough cash you can't be that far from home base. A little chilling never hurt anyone. Also, you might consider the validity of your parents objections. After all I suppose they are sane loving people only looking out for your best interest.

Well then, unless you are 18 years of age you don't get a car. Because in every state in the union unless ou are an emancipated minor you can't hold a contract and it requires a contract to buy a car.

Yes but do you have enough money for insurance premiums, gas, oil, new tires when the old ones wear out, money to fix whatever may go wrong with the car?

If you are under 18 then you are stuck. Try asking them "Under what conditions will you let me get a car, I'll do anything you want!" You might not like what you hear, but it is a start.

Your parents have the final say though.

Well sometimes parents know whats best for a child.... sometimes it has nothing to do with the money issue. It probable has a lot more to do with safety. BE patient, I am sure they will know when it is time for you to get your car with or without their help....

Remember you have to learn to walk before you run.....

Keep on saving. You also need to be able to pay for gas, tune ups, and insurance. Maybe they will say yes when you have enough money for all the other expenses too.

You may have the money for the car but know you need the money for the gas and the insurance.
