I am a Christian and I have my beliefs. I have looked in dictionarys and on the internet about atheistism, but I would like to hear from you, what it is you believe. I have not met an atheist before, at least not as far as I know, and would like to know more about how you feel. :)

I used to be an atheist so I guess I can answer this... Atheists generally only believe things that have been observed, detected or proven. The biggest leap of faith they will ever take is Extrapolation based on known laws or observations, but even then, they will always keep an open mind to being wrong in that regard. As far as religion goes, they believe that man created God to control the general population, and scare people into doing certain things for fear of going to hell.

I am an atheist because 1. To date there is no direct scientific evidence that any sort of supreme being exists, and 2. There are no phenomena that exist that cannot be explained by other methods, or, I believe, that have the potential for being explained. I am a spiritual person, but I believe that the source of what you, as a Christian, would call my "salvation", lies within myself and not externally. I suspect that you, along with myself and most others who seek religion, do so in response to the question "How can I become a better person?". To the extent that this applies, I wish you the best in your chosen faith. We may believe differently, but we all love alike.

I wish I wasn't so tired and could give you a list of all the things I believe in. It's not as easy as saying "I believe that Jesus is my lord and personal savior." That's pretty succinct and sums up Christianity in a nutshell. I'll give it a shot.

As an atheist I do not believe in god, souls, or the afterlife.

I do believe that there is an explanation for everything. We just don't have the tools or thought processes to explain everything at this time.

I believe that religion was invented to explain things that seemed, at the time, unexplainable.

I don't believe in ghosts, psychics, spoon-bending, remote viewing, or dowsing.

I do believe in James Randi and think he is an unsung hero.

I don't believe that everything happens for a reason.

I do believe that there are reasons that things happen. This is called physics.

I believe that morality is the glue that keeps societies together and comes from people living in groups a hundred-thousand years ago.

I do not believe that morality has or needs any sort of supernatural origin.

I believe that people and apes evolved from a common ancestor. Just look at how similar we are.

I believe that all creation myths are metaphors for this process.

I do not believe that The US was founded to be Christian country.

I do believe that a lot of people are not familiar with the word "deist."

I believe that as long as you are consenting adults, who's in bed with you is none of my business.

That said, I believe in gay marriage.

Strangely, though, I don't believe in marriage for myself.

I believe in a woman's right to choose.

I believe that knowledge and education are the true salvation of mankind.

I believe that faith stands in the way of knowledge and education.

I believe that I'm the luckiest guy in the world because of my little family (just me, my girl, and our cat.)

I believe the universe is vaster than we can imagine.

I believe that people are people are people and we would do well to remember that.

That's all I've got for now. Read through my umpteen other answers for more information.

For me the concept of a god is completely foolish on many levels. Like take for instance, if there is a soul and a god... only a fool would give away the only thing that they truly are, like why does god need or want your soul anyway??? Sounds like the biggest con job to me... a heaven? Yeah right!!! And also, God would have to be an Atheist himself because god has no god... therefore making a oxymoronic sham of himself without the help of believers or non-believers. AND... the concept of a god is relative to who is the lesser (subservant) and who is the greater (master)... like a chimp would be a "god" to a monkey, a human would be a "god" to a chimp, and an Alien would be a god to a human and so on up the evolutionary scale it would go. In short, Atheism is based on reasoning, science and being master of your own universe. Self-empower yourself to the freedom and enjoy reality for the truth that it is... stop living a lie by believing in spooks. So, for me and many other Atheists it is about truth, freedom and evolving into a better human!

Though I'm not an atheist per se, I think I might be able to help you shed light on the subject, as I know many. The word comes from Greek roots and literally means "without God." An atheist is simply a person that does not believe in any God or higher power, and, therefore religion. Hope that helps.

I believe in the Scientific Method where something is not true unless you can prove it with verifiable facts (and I don't mean bible verses; the bible, at least in part, is wrong; unless you believe the sun revolves around the earth).

You cannot prove the existence of God, you have faith in it, and faith is a belief in something that you cannot prove.

I was raised a Christian, but I don't follow the religion. I am the "Doubting Thomas," I have to put my fingers into the wounds of the risen Christ in order to believe.

The bible may be a good book from which to learn a moral code, and a way to live, but I don't think it is a historical document.

I put my faith into science and the observable universe.

The only thing that ALL atheists have in common is the disbelief in or denial of the existence of God or gods. Other than that, atheists can and do have a wide range of beliefs. What exactly would you like to know? Atheists can have faith, be religious, as well as spiritual. I'm an atheist and I always try to be open minded.

I do not believe in God, or any gods, nor in demons, angels, hell, heaven, or other concepts that would be labelled as spiritual, religious, or supernatural. I believe that "nature" includes anything that we can experience with our physical senses, and there is therefore no such thing as the supernatural, which literally means outside of, or beyond, nature. Atheism is the default condition for all of humanity--in other words, you were born an atheist, because as a baby, you had no belief or faith in God...that had to be taught by your parents, or you learned it later on from the culture in which you live. To me, belief in God implies that one doesn't know there's a God--for if one were 100% certain, one would not need to believe, just as one doesn't need to believe in gravity because it is simply there.

I once was an Atheist now I'm more agnostic, as a previous atheist I believe that there is no such thing a God at all, that I found religion to be pointless and ridiculous, it did not make sense to believe in an almighty 'God', or that the idea that Adam and Eve were the begininng, and the people who would nag and whine at me about me going to heII since I didn't believe was annoying as heII. Now being an agnostic, I accept your beliefs, I don't believe in them but I accept people have different views than myself, I don't care if you believe in 'God' or not but if you try and convert me I'm sorry but I'm going to have to tell you to shove it.

Since you are asking specifically what I believe and not why:

I believe that there is no divine anything. When we die, our functions cease and our bodies are organic matter. I believe that with all the interpretations of god among different religions and within religions, it is laughable for anyone to say that they have the correct way to worship.

I studied eastern philosophies for a long time and found them very helpful, but I reject all the religious apsects of them and all other philosophies.
