Three things come to mind.
1. The people you know and the relationships you form with them will have a greater impact on your life than anything else. (ie: friends and family are more important than money)
2. No matter what it is, you can become skilled in anything as long as you want it and practice often.
3. Ultimately, doing the right thing feels better than taking the easy way out. (This one is a little difficult to teach a child).
Certainly I'm not the wisest person in the world. In fact, I'm only 22, but I think if you teach a child those three things you'll be setting them up for a wonderful life.

Compassion, Love, Faith and trust in God. These are all encompassed in one package called Christianity. Teach them to be grateful when good things happen, patient and understanding when things go wrong or not as they want, and that as long as they try to live a good life that is pleasing to God, he will always take care of them and reserve them a special place in heaven. Our time on earth is our preparation for heaven. Living every day trying to do the will of the Lord will help keep them on a good path in life and help them make all decisions no matter the size.

The real world! I have a friend who sheltered her daughter to the point that she can not function in the real world.
Not to mention the fact that she thinks that the world revolves around her. She is so screwed up that I don't know how she will function in the world as she becomes an adult!
And teach them to be good people, honest and loving!

Compassion for the elderly.
When you smile at an elderly person or help them with their bags or even just take time to listen to what they have to say, it makes a world of difference in thier lives!

Tell your child to always ask him/herself what he or she wants out of life and to never do or accept anything just because "others do it".
This applies to everything in life. Relationships, religion, education. In short, your path in life. Teach your kid to look for the answers for him/herself and never take what someone else is trying to force down his/her throat.
Oh, and this is especially true regarding religious fanaticism. Teach him/her to always ask 'why'.

That no matter what, there is a positive in every situation. This teaches them that even in their darkest moments, there is hope to be found and moved towards.

That everyone is the same. That color doesn't matter. That the only thing the matters is who they are on the inside. Teach them to treat everyone with respect and to discriminate against no person.

To see that the simplicity of life is far more beautiful than anything you can buy. The nature is more beautiful and exotic than any thing buyable.
