I don't consider myself to be of a special class of people because I am a veteran. The military gave to me as much as I got from it. I do not have a sense of entitlement because I served. I pay my share of taxes just like all the police officers, fire fighters, teachers, doctors, etc... in this country.

No one should have to pay taxes. The government instead of being war mongering power hungry lawyers, should be no nonsense business men/women, have some government run corporations that turn a profit, people could some small local taxes for services in their city/community. It should make people ill that that we have to work nearly 6 full month before we actually make any money for ourselves, the government pays 400 billion in to war funds and there are still people starving in our own country.

I am all for Veteran benefits but no one escapes taxes. I do not think military pay or veteran benefits should be taxed. It seems silly to tax money that comes from the government. Any money earned from civilian jobs owes taxes.

The benefits of government are available to all citizens, regardless of their relationship to that government--political, military, or other service to that government notwithstanding. Veterans received a salary for their efforts and benefits that are not available to the average citizen; a full lifetime waiver of tax liability is simply not practical to offer every member of the armed services.

because they're still citizens and still get to live under a government that needs funding. They shouldn't have to pay as much taxes as those who haven't fought. But after being in the military, I gladly serve my country by paying for it. hopefully the FairTax will be enacted and taxes will be much lower.

Look at the founding documents of this country. We are CITIZEN SOLDIERS, not special people. We lay aside our mantle of citizenry when needed, then become citizens again. As citizens, we pay taxes. It is a good system, in my opinion.

The reason is that the government still has to run, and our tax dollars is what makes that possible.
