I have very very little family left. Aunt, uncle and two cousins. My ex's family is still close but they are not family anymore and are busy getting to know the new wife. I would need to buy a plane ticket. Also, if I go should I take my three kids? That would quadruple the expense. I haven't seen my family since before my marriage broke up over a year ago.

I would love to have moved back but my ex insisted on joint custody and now I can't move more than 10 miles away. My family doesn't have the money to visit or help.

Keep a good phone relationship but do not take food out of your childrens mouths or clothes off their backs to go visit family. I've asked myself that same question many many times. Also in alot of states if you can prove that it will be better financially or whatever you can move with joint custody. The best thing for you to do is find a friend that you can hang out with alot. It will help.

I would let the family know how things where and start saving here and there if possible. At least call them to talk to them. I would probably just pick up and move back home with my three kids. Call and see if maybe they would be willing to come and see you.

debt's not a good idea but family's important. there are ways to cut corners. could you stay with friends or family? could someone help you with expenses? is there anything about this in your divorce agreement? could you use alimony?

I hope everything works out for you! hang in there, girl!
