Go for your commercial pilot license and all the ratings required. If you are young enough, you will get them all within four or five years and then will be able to start working as a CFI (certified flight instructor) and build up hours while getting paid. From that point on, you need to review your options: Either fly for a commuter airline (which will hire you with less hours) or try for a commercial carrier. It will all come down to how many hours you have logged, what experience you have. Try also hanging around airports and building up relationships with people witin the industry. Relationships always help to get your career started. You can even get a job in your local airport and help to cover your training expenses.

If you have the opportunity and budget, try going to an aviation-oriented college!

Happy landings!

I am a commercial pilot now and I am 22 years old. When I was 12, I was in the same boat that you are in now. I joined the Civil Air Patrol, and I got a few hours of flight time. But the best way to do it, is to hang out at a local airport as much as possible and try to talk to pilots. But be very respectful because pilots as well as all people really appreciate that. Most pilots remember how it was when they were younger, and you will probably get a couple of rides.... Oh, if you live in the Tulsa Oklahoma area let me know, and I will take you up. Good luck, Brian. flyingguy001@yahoo.com

There are two paths. If you are financially able, you can simply take flying lessons and log time until you have the necessary time and experience to get the ATP designation. To supplement the costs, you can give flying lessons once you have earned the license. The cheapest way is to get through college and join the military. While by no means easy, it is the background that most airline pilots have. Military pilots build up an incredible amount of air time during their training and service which would be difficult if not impossible to achieve any other way.

Math is probably the most important subject in school to learn to become a pilot. The more you learn, the better the pilot you can become.

You can go to your local flight school and buy the books for private flying lessons. In the US, you only have to be 16 years old to get your VFR (visual flight rules) private single engine airplane license.

From there you can work toward an IFR (instrument) license.

Good luck and happy flying!

What you may want to do now, in case you wanted, is the floor college part of the tutorial. yet keep in mind that inspite of in case you probably did the completed floor college now and took the FAA deepest Pilot written exam, the exam has a existence of in straightforward words 2 years and also you would ought to take it lower back later! another idea... if you're on new york, inspect McArthur or Republic; they ought to have flight colleges there. solid success.
