I really don't know what to believe anymore, think of all the earth has been through, severe freezing, severe heating, how do we know for sure that this is not normal? we only have accurate weather records in north america for the last 100-150 years and the earth is millions of years old. how do we really know that this is not normal?

Global warming is not that simple. No one is claiming that any particular heat wave is a result of global warming. About the strongest claim any scientist I know is willing to back about specific weather events are the large storms may be stronger than they might have otherwise been as a result of global warming. The do predict that heatwaves, like the one that Europe suffered last summer will become more common, but for the most part scientists are focusing on average temperatures, which have little to do with day to day weather events.

Global warming is changing climate patterns. Spring is coming sooner all over the world. Winters are shorter all over the world. Storms are stronger all over the world and more heat waves have been experienced. But is it going to be hotter tomorrow in Pawtucket because of global warming? All I can say is that it is not that simple.

As a geophysicist, I can tell you that:
1) yes, there is such a thing as global warming (and cooling).
2) the planet has been warming since the end on the last ice age (approximately 10,000 years ago)
3) Even Al Gore the leading vocal person on this has stated publicly that it is being over stated
4) It makes no difference whether we use fossil fuels or not. If all CFC's, fossil fuels, etc stopped being used this second, the planet will continue to warm until the cycle decides to reverse and start a cooling trend where ice and glaciers will advance.
5) ....need I go on?

Daily / Weekly / Yearly variations and extremes you're seeing are not examples of global warming.
Global warming is real, though. The effect that is seen is that the polar ice caps are melting pretty quickly. We really won't see much happen with the temperatures where we are until those are done melting. When they're about done melting, though, look out. Coastal cities will be flooded and then the temperatures will start to go up.

No. back in 1988, some people thought that the weather had permanently changed and we would have hot weather all year even in the winter. They thought we were going to have another Dust Bowl, like in Texas and Arkansas. But those things didn't happen. Al Gore is a political opportunist. He is not content with losing graciously, he has to smear his opponent's reputation for generations to come.

No, the heat is not global warming. If it is, don't worry, you will be long dead before the earth gets so blazing hot that humans can't survive. Until then, get out and enjoy the nice weather.
