Well the best way is to pray of course. But we all need to remember that we have a freewill and therefore we decide how hard to work if we truly desire to break the addiction. One way that has really helped me and a whole lot of other Christians, is something that Kenneth Copeland wrote in his booklet "The Decision Is Yours".

At one time he was a glutton, (Someone who always eats far more than they need to.) and he tried all kinds of diets, etc. to quit, but nothing worked. After a while though, he started doing this: Whenever he came upon some food he really wanted to eat he would say, "No, I choose Jesus instead of that." He was able to COMPLETELY overcome his addiction shortly after that.

So that is a pretty good way. Even if you are not a Christian you can break an addiction with that idea. For example, if you're try to stop smoking, when you see your cigarettes and want to light one up, you can say, "No, I choose fresh air instead of bad breath, black teeth, and lung cancer."

Hope that assists you and others with whatever you end up needing help with one day.

Keep praying that God will help....and He will. It takes effort on the other person's part too. Stay away and avoid that addiction any way you can. If it's near or easy to get to, there's going to be some giving in. Just pray for the Lord's help.

I agree, deliverance minisitries is the best way. Chances are you have a spirit of whatever addiction attacking you and you need to have it cast out of you through laying on of hands. Do some research and you will find the answer. Pray to God about it and he will lead you to the right place.

God bless you!

first, you have to pray about it and get God involved. after all, everything is easier when He is helping you.
after that, it's just common sense.
avoid the people and places where you know you'll be tempted.
write a list of all the reasons you're quitting, and go over it when you're tempted.
have positive people you talk to every day, who will keep you focused.
find other, healthier things you can do for fun, maybe join the YMCA, so you're not just laying around....boredon often leads to temptation.

it is hard, but it can be done. my own father was an alcoholic for many years, he got sober when I was younger. though he later died from health issues, he was glad he kicked the habit. and he could not have done it without God and a good pastor who helped him.

As a Christian fighting two addicitons, my path has led me to 12-step recovery programs. In them I have found the tools to live free of my addictions one day (sometimes one moment) at a time.

You can't break an addiction if you don't want to. So the person must really want to change and they must pray and repent and ask god forgiveness and NEVER DO IT AGAIN.

Twelve step groups are quite helpful; while they don't promote Christianity, they do promote the acceptance of a higher power, and many Christians use these tools with Christ and God as their HP. And it's quite successful.

What does it have to do with being Christian? I'm not a Christian, and I could have told you. Oh well, guess you would rather limit your answers and therefore what you might learn than to hear from a non-Christian, huh?
