Here is an article from my website that will help.

Homemade Skunk Treatment

You’re just about ready to go to bed and you let your dog out for one last pee before bedtime. You let your dog back in and you smell something. Something that smells very bad. Something that smells like… SKUNK! Your worst nightmare, your dog has been sprayed by a skunk. Your dog smells and your house smells and there are no grooming shops open at 10:00pm. Now your stuck, you have to deal with the smell until tomorrow and hope that you can get the smell out of your carpet and furniture, not to mention yourself. You wish there was something you could do to get rid of the smell now. Well good news, there is. Using products you may normally find around your home you can bath that skunk chasing K9 and get rid of the smell right away. First and foremost, never wet your dog down first before using this formula. The chemicals in a skunks spray reacts with water and will spread making in almost impossible to get rid of all the smell until it wears away. Second, just to dissolve an old wives tale, tomato paste or sauce will not work unless it is allowed to full dry on your dog. That can take, on a medium to longhaired dog 12 to 24 hours. I’m pretty sure you don’t have the time to sit around and wait for your dog to dry with tomato paste covering him. If your dog is white or blond colored, you will also end up with a pink dog instead that will take quite a while to fade. To make this skunk solution you will need: 1- bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide 3%, ¾ box of Baking soda, 1 cup of dish soap, (Dawn, Palmolive). You will also need an empty dish detergent bottle to mix the ingredient together in, it will also make it easier to apply to your dog. Mix all three ingredients together well. Apply the mixture to your dog liberally. Be careful not to get the mixture into your dog’s eyes or mouth. Baking soda can be harmful if swallowed and peroxide can be dangerous to the eyes. Use a face cloth to apply the mixture to your dogs face. If your dog is anything like mine, they probably got sprayed right in the face. Rub the mixture into your dog’s skin and coat. Make sure to completely saturate your dog in the mixture. Let the mixture sit on your dog for about 5 min. Rinse thoroughly starting with the head and face. Lift your dogs head to make sure the mixture runs away from the eyes and mouth. It is always easier if you have an extra set of hands. Towel dry. This mixture has been proven to work if you follow the instructions. For more information about skunk treatments contact: thepetproject@zoomshare.com

I can't vouch for the tomato juice answers but I had very good luck with...now don't laugh!...feminine douche. The more flowery-smelling the better. A friend recommended this when our dog got skunked, only he didn't mention the flowery-smelling stuff at first, so I got the most mild vinegar version I could. One-and-a-half packages and long doggie-bath later, our dog smelled MUCH better. The stink wasn't completely gone but it was no longer unbearable. We washed her again the next morning with the remaining half and noticed an even more marked improvement. It was that night that the friend mentioned the flowery-smelling stuff.

Fortunately we haven't had occasion to test his suggestion but I'm guessing the added scent might help cover even more (or better yet, neutralize!) the skunk stink.

It's a lot easier to deal with than tomato juice would be too, I think. For starters, douche is clear liquid and won't stain your towels a funny color if the dog shakes before you're finished rinsing.

Good luck and I hope your dog is smelling like s/he usually does soon!

Recipe

1qt. hydrogen peroxide - new
1/4cup baking soda
2tsp liquid soap

mix together and rub into coat. If needed on the face, be careful not to let it get in the dog's eyes. Allow to sit for 10-15 minutes, then rinse well. Repeat if needed. Warning - may lighten the coat of dark dogs.

For the next couple months, your dog will probably smell somewhat whenever he gets wet. AH, the joys of a skunked dog!

Got this from my vet also.
1 quart peroxide (cheap at Walmart)
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon dish soap (dawn)
Rub in real good-let sit 15 minutes. Rinse well.

We have a large dog, 1/2 Border Collie and 1/2 St. Bernard. We tripled the ingredients for him. We applied it with a sponge and then rubbed. He didn't like it very well but it worked real good. Still has a faint smell every time it rains, but much better than he was.

The more you wash him the more he will stink. There is a product out there made by a company called natures miracle. They make a product called skunk odor remover. You pour it on you dog and let them air dry. This really works well!

The tomato juice thing does not work on dogs, only on humans. The correct answer is the peroxide concoction given by

Paws-itive K...
she knows exactly what she is talking about, this is the same thing our vet recommends.

I;m a groomer, and I'm going to tell you because I think everyone should know......mix some baking powder, rubbing alcohol, and some dog shampoo, leave on for about 15min, it will take care of it.
