Buddhism is one of the most peaceful religions, but during a visit to sri Lanka i got to know the violant nature of the buddhists monks and the people who follow this religion in sri lanka. Buddhists are burning down churches and persecuting christians and other minority groups in that country.
how come the followers of such a peaceful religion can be so violant?

When we talk of buddhism, people think it is some utopian belief that spreads perfection where ever it goes. I am buddhist , have been for years and I am sorry to say, like everything else, buddhism and buddhists are NOT perfect. Buddhist training helps us to see reality and find truth and the truth is buddhists are people and people screw up. Why does this shock people. There have been cases of molestation and monks, stealing funds and yes even buddhists killing others (Im prettty sure most of the kamakaze piolots were buddhist). We are buddhist trying to better ourselves...we are not the Buddha. As stated, violence happens everywhere.

And Martin, peace exsisted before Jesus, exsists with Jesus and without Jesus. Stop being silly. Peace be with you.

Probably because when someone tries to achieve peace without Christ, the devil can overpower them and get them to do his evil work.

Church Attacks Escalate in Sri Lanka
Christian persecution has increased in recent days, in Sri Lanka, as a new law that would ban "forcible" conversions is being considered by the Parliament in Sri Lanka.

This time the persecution is not coming from Islamic militants, but instead Buddhist demostrators. The Buddhist aggression against Christians has escalated and on Sunday, April 23rd, a Methodist church in Piliyandala, Sri Lanka was interrupted. Buddhist demonstrators rallied a local mob of 100 by yelling anti-Christian slogans from the loudspeakers mounted on their vehicle, disrupting the church service. The perpetrators also incited the crowd’s anger by calling the 20 Christians inside “Anti Buddhist.”

Two monks and another demonstrator slipped by three stationed police officers into the building and ordered the service to stop immediately. The police intervened but urged the pastors to conclude the service early, which they did.

One of the church leaders was struck in the leg with a flagpole bearing the Buddhist flag, and another was hit in the face. A female evangelist was also physically attacked.

When believers returned to their vehicles outside the church, they discovered the mob had flattened tires, siphoned gas and smashed windshields. Protesters also toppled motorcycles and removed their helmets.

One evangelist present was summoned to appear in court on April 25th, regarding the incident. The Christians have not retaliated after this event but have remained at peace.

Please remember these persecuted Christians in your prayers, and also the Buddist persecutors. Ask the Lord to open the eyes of those who are not following Him so that they may come to salvation in Christ.

>Pumpkin..
"Buddhism is one of the most peaceful religions"
If we really understand this line and believe it truly, there is no reason why we would see "Violante" as any being's nature anywhere to begin with.

which means you answered your own question, pumpkin.

if you firmly believed your own statement :"Buddhism is one of the most peaceful religions" to begin with, you wouldn't see what you saw, you wouldn't ask what you've asked.

if it was like : " I thought Buddhism is one of the most peaceful religions, but ... " which means you didn't firmly believe your own statement to begin with. in that case, it makes sense you
saw what you saw and asked what you asked.

Q: "how come the followers of such a peaceful religion can be so Violante?"

A: "Mind changes Reality."

Always doubt what you read on the internet. People only publish there because they can't get published in a reputable journal. The name of the site you got your information from should ring alarm bells.

Many 'christians' seem to think that being persecuted makes them closer to jesus and telling of 'persecution' only 'proves' he was right. Thus an article like this that ssstttrrreeetttcccchhhheeess the truth shows that jesus' predictions 'correct..

Now I'm not accusing you of lying, only believing lies

i highly doubt that the monks were involved in burning down churches. as for other people who were and fallow buddhism, simply dirrect that question to any other religion. none of the religions were founded on violence, that is just human nature kicking in, as seen in islam, christianity and judaism. Violent people can be found anywhere

Buddhism is like any other main religious belief. Nothing special.

There are obscurations in every human mind. If you do not practice for your own to reduce this obscurations the world would not change.

The Buddha offered methods he himself succeeded in clearing his mind. But you have to apply them.

I'd ask if you remember a little thing called the Spanish Inquisition? Or the Crusades?

I'm sure that isn't part of their doctrine, per se.

Christianity also teaches about love, peace, & charity towards thy neighbour, & yet, look at all the attrocities committed in the name of Christianity.
