It depends on the severity of the mental impairment. Use something that person likes as a reward system. Good luck and have a great day.

There are obviously things that they cannot do and will never be able to do. my advice is to focus on the things that they can do. By letting them do these things it gives them personal freedom. Help them to be the best at these things. Also treat them as you would any other person. Don't make exceptions, just soften the rules a little. It you make excuses and help them too, much it undermines their confidence and selfworth.

We all like rewards, make a chart for him or her and share the rewards, everytime she or he does a event good give a star and everytime 10 stars she or he makes, give a reward that he or she likes. More stars the motivation make it a fun time game, people who have depression are the hardest to motivate. Good luck....

Tell them that if they do what you want, you'll give them a cookie. Then, once they've done it, just tell them to do another thing and you'll give them 2 cookies. Use this so one and so forth, and they'll never figure it out!!! I use this at the mentally challanged camp I work at, and it always works! It sounds mean, but it is ok.

They are on a mind-set all to their own. One great way is to kinda think on their level. Do some things they enjoy. Praise is a big thing for them. Believe or not they love to learn new things. Hope this helped.

You need to motivate them with something they would like to earn after doing a certain task. For instance I had a client that loved balls of string and would carry them in his pants pocket so to get him to do something he would get so many inches of string for doing the task.

I know this sounds mean, but I had one in one of my classes, and she was really nice and had one of them special teachers that helped her, and the teacher would buy candy and stuff for when the kid did well, she would also try to make the stuff seem fun.

why did you have to write it like that? If you act like you type then you will never be able to motivate them.
