Get a good quality rope toy..(not the dallar store ones, but the hartz ones at your grocers are fine).the ones that appear to be twisted string tied in a knot. Soak it in unsalted broth. Dry it in a very slow oven. she will try to chew all the falovor out of that, and it works as dental floss to keep her teeth clean, and her breath fresh.
If she grows tired, (couple of months)as the flavor is gone, just wash by hand, and re-soak.

Use as many people as it takes to restrain your dog and brush them...if at all possible. At least once a week. Every six months they should be cleaned by a Vet Tech who is licensed in dental. Pets teeth are different then humans. They actually accumulate food under their gums along their tooth line. It can cause bacteria and infection and cause some major problems for your dog. Not only can they develop painful sores but the infection can spread to their liver and kidneys, because they swallow the bacteria. Not to mention their poor stomachs. Also, the vet can give you a product to rub on your dogs teeth. It helps guard them from plaque between visits.

Some Dogs just won't allow their teeth to be brushed. As an animal care specialist I recommend to let your vet do it. They will put your dog under and then thoroughly clean its teeth and gums. (while they are sleeping, they can also do a full exam, clip nails, etc. kills alot of birds with one stone) I do this for both my dogs once a year. Its kinda pricey, but worth it for their health in the long run.

My vet told me to take a cotton swab (Q-tip) and wrap gauze around it. Use it as a brush. Just have to brush the outside of the back teeth.
Works well.

yes you can try milk bones but the vet might have something that will clean dogs teeth because we bought something for my dog at the vet and it seemed to work.

Do not give up no matter what method you use. If you can even get your finger, with a cloth around it, in the dogs mouth.

There is doggy toothpaste that smells like beef or bacon, have you tried that? It's at any pet store.
