My daughter has friends come over all the time. Most of her friends are good about the no shoes rule in the house but a few of them I see walking around my house with shoes on. How do I get them to take their shoes off without being mean about it. My daughter and I always walk around the house in socks.

It's your house and they should respect your rules. When they come over and they don't take off their shoes, go up to them and tell them "Would you please remove your shoes?". Also have your daughter tell them when they come over. Whenever I go into a house and I see that my friend has taken off their shoes, I do the same. I even do it at my own house.

We have the same rule at my house. What I do is have a pile of shoes at the door most of the people that come in will see the shoes and ask if they need to take off theirs or just do it automatically. Otherwise I try to show our rule. I will either pick up the friends of my kids and bring them inside. That way my daughter and I will remove our shoes and they usually will follow. When I know someone new is coming over I try to be outside then as I go in take off my shoes. The parents have always asked if it was a shoes off house.

You know, there is no need to be mean, just to remember it is YOUR house.
If you had a grown up entering your house with shoes, you would tell him/her...

when you see a kid going through your house with shoes, just say "please remove your shoes now" and look that she does so! stand up to the kids, don't let them "walk all over you"...

Its nice that your girl gets her friends over all the time. It means she trust you, and you can keep an eye on who she hangs out with....

When you see them with shoes on, just go up to them and ask them nicely to take the shoes off.

You could have your daughter tell them too take off their shoes, because it seems like when the kid tells them to, it seems less mean. But tell her before they come over. :)

Good grief, lighten up! If you absolutely must have them be shoeless, here's a novel idea: ASK THEM TO TAKE OFF THEIR SHOES WHEN THEY GET THERE! Me, I'm just happy my kids have nice friends and I just haul out the vacuum if I need to when they leave. Seriously, just ask nicely; kids usually aim to please!

May be simple but we have a sign outside our house that says 'Please remoooove your shoes' and it has a picture of a cow on it. It always works
