I've heard that chicks that are born a day early or a day later may possibly be premature or weak. Is this true?

cause I have a chicken egg that might possibly hatch in 9 days and I just wanted to know if the chick will still be ok if he or she hatches a day earlier or later.

The egg is not with its mother, she's probably sit back on the farm or something. But I have it in a homemade incubator and maintain the temp and humidity. I turn it over at least 3 times a day. 4 at the most but the chick is probably ok.

Chickens do not hatch until THEY are ready so I don't see how they can be premature. It would be a case of them developing faster.

Normally, if the egg is in an incubator alone, the chick will hatch at the proper time. We've raised chickens for fifteen years, and the only time I saw premature babies was when all their siblings hatched first. When they're that close to hatching and they hear everybody else chirping, they try to hatch, too, so they don't wind up abandoned. You can generally tell an early chick because they have a much harder time standing (they generally sit on their legs, which are splayed a little to either side). Keep it warm and dry and make sure it's got access to food and water, and they will catch up just fine. It's just a matter of letting them catch up those extra couple of days they missed. Don't stress it out too much or let it get cold and he'll be good to go. Good luck!

The question SHOULD be, "WILL this egg even hatch".

Is the hen who laid the egg sitting on it? Is it in an incubator that moves the egg avery so often? set on the right temperature? the right humidity?

If you say NO to any ONE Of these questions, the egg is NOT going to hatch, and is very likely already dead. Hens lay eggs in clutches; if you got that egg from a hen, and it got cold, or even below 85 degrees, its not viable. Toss it and leave the eggs to the chickens.

Of course it is okay....Mother nature is not on a specific "clock". If the egg hatches a day or two early or a day or two late...go with it an STOP WORRYING!!!!
I have known kindergarten children who have successfully hatched chicken eggs and the babe's did just fine. With all of your worry and hope....that I have (read) watched you go through...you will be a chicken parent in no time.
All I can advise is that you continue to "sit on your egg" and love every minute of learning. If it doesn't work out...my blessings to you both but you tried your best...I know it!
By the way, I have a pet Rooster. He is a Japanese Black Tailed Bantam...a beauty to look at and a sweet, poopy little friend and our entire family loves him.
Good luck to you!!!
I have bread and raised everything from exotics, wild orphans, game birds...blah, blah, blah...for over 14 years. If you need support or advise (I don't know everything but....) e-mail me at twistedkitty15@yahoo.ca
